If You Haven't Pre-Ordered An Extra Dual Shock 4, Do It Now

The PlayStation 4 is guaranteed to be a hot item this holiday season, but don't forget about one very important component: That extra controller.

The PS4 only comes with one Dual Shock 4, of course, and you're bound to want an extra. Personally, I definitely need an extra so that I can always be charging one while playing with the other. However, you might not be able to just grab a Dual Shock 4 on day one.

GameStop has been warning customers that their initial allotment of Dual Shock 4s won't be very large. In fact, most stores around me are saying they're only expecting between 15 and 25 on launch day. Most are telling people that if they haven't already pre-ordered a controller, they can't guarantee you one come launch. I'm not sure about Amazon or other retailers but it definitely seems as if GameStop won't have many. Of course, they could get more; Sony may respond to the demand before fall arrives, but there's no guarantee.

So anyway, just a friendly PSA.

I'll be good with one for a good long while. That's money that can go into GAMES! I usually just charge the sucker on my PC.

Thats how I feel. I had 4 DS3's and they never got used it was a huge waste of money for me. But for others its probably different. However Gamestop offered top dollar for them which was surprising so I traded them in for games.

Won't need to do that anymore!

The DS4 can charge on the PS4 even when it is turned off. Gosh I love that.

Yep, I do the same thing World, charge my DS3 on my PC. I didn't know you could charge the DS4 while the PS4 was off!! That is slick!

I like having more than one controller even if all I ever play is single player campaigns. Playing untethered is one of my favorite changes Sony made this gen.

Well Gamestop may think that but most retailers are still offering pre-order bundles with an extra controller. I doubt they will be in short supply.

I have a 10 foot long charging cable, so if the need ever actually arrives, then I can use that.

I don't really see any couch co-op possibilities with the games coming at launch, anyway.

Im' still going to wait until sometime later in the new year for a PS4 purchase. No rush. Life has other expenses.

BUT definitely need two controllers, one recharging, the other in play.

Keep Playing!

Granted I have no intention on buying a new console anytime soon but why? It's not like a lot of games will make use of it. DS4 shortages aren't going to be that big a deal for most.

Hell I bought a second DS3 years ago and it's been barely used, I should probably just sell the damn thing.

I've owned 4 DS3's in my lifetime.

And I only ever play single player and multiplayer, never co-op.

Got 2 at launch, just in case I ever needed it. They both died after a few years. Got another 2.

Seems like a lost cause to me. Multi-player is primarily online now. I barely make use of my second controller for my PS3. Even when friends are around we tend to just play single-player games because there aren't many great household multiplayer titles anymore. There are fighters... But I end up beating everyone I come across :P

Shouls co-op platformers suddenly return I will be overjoyed and do so, but I cam not getting my hopes up after this gen.

A spanking new controller with a brand new battery in it should have a pretty lasting power before it needs to be recharged anyway.
I will need a second controller eventually, but I don't see the need to rush it.

But then again, my job is not to play games all day, as opposed to some others around here. :)

what for?
how many games are actually going to take use of 2 controllers?
0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000001% of them within the first year of launch?
so what do you need a extra controller for?
buy a extra long USB cable and charge it while your playing, and save that 100 bucks for another game!

Um, if Borderlands 3, Portal 3, a new Mortal Kombat or anything similar to those games come out in the first year i'll need one. My friends and I still like to play local co-op, and if the tv is big enough the split screen doesn't even bother me.

I believe they've stated that the DS3 will not work with PS4 (which sucks).

I'm just saying if anything is two players, has co op or local multiplayer, within the first year, hell within the first few months, i'll need one. Playing FIFA or NHL or 2K Bball is way more fun when its against a real person sitting next to you. I'm sure some sports titles will be close to launch.

Unless your controllers display suicidal tendencies e.g. bouncing off walls you probably won't need a replacement for the foreseeable future.

I too like the convenience of being totally wireless and charging one while using the other. While it doesn't happen too often, the extra controller has come in handy more than a few times for me over the past five and a half years!

Seems like i'm in the minority here. I play alot of fighters, sports games and local co-op when my friends are over. So i'll definitely have use for another thats not just a replacement. That is if there's any of those games at launch to play.

This is just a way to upsell and get a few more pre-orders. I don't blame them because they have to keep their jobs but I can't imagine there won't be a healthy supply of extra controllers available from day one. Even if it's not at GameStop, I refuse to believe Walmart, Target or Best Buy wouldn't have a bunch on the shelves.
