PS4, Xbox One Give Amazon Its Biggest Pre-Order Week Ever
Oh, let's just forget all this "PlayStation 4 vs. Xbox One" stuff and revel in the fact that it's good (and necessary) for the video game industry.
It's also good for retailers. For example, did you know that the new next-gen consoles helped the video game arm of Amazon post its largest pre-order week ever? I'm not surprised.
As the retailer just reported, pre-orders were definitely spiking last week: At "peak demand," Amazon customers were ordering more than 2,500 PS4 and Xbox One consoles every minute. It was also revealed that E3 week hardware pre-orders jumped 4,000 percent year-over-year. Well, that only makes sense; we were at the tail end of a generation life cycle during E3 2012 and this year, two new consoles were fully unveiled.
Oh, and day-one pre-orders for the two consoles was almost double that of all video game sales during Black Friday 2012 at Amazon. That's pretty ridiculous, isn't it? Everyone's excited!
