Final Fantasy XV Expected To Sell Over A Million In Japan
If you weren't aware, the mobile game market has sort of hurt the console market in Japan.
And because of that, sales estimations for even big upcoming console titles might seem lower than you might imagine. Take Final Fantasy XV, for example.
In the February issue of Nikkei Trendy (as translated by DualShockers), Square Enix says both FFXV and Dragon Quest XI are expected to sell over a million copies in the local market. They also anticipate the games giving console hardware a boost, which isn't too surprising. However, remember that Final Fantasy XIII sold 1.7 million units in Japan in just its first two weeks, and that was when there were far fewer PS3s and 360s than there are PS4s and Xbox Ones now.
Also, it's worth noting that the Nikkei article mentions FFXV's action-based combat, as it's likely to "split the opinion of the traditional fans of the series, but will appeal to lovers of action games." And my response to this insanity has always been the same? What action fan is buying a Final Fantasy? Seriously?
Recently, we wondered if Kingdom Hearts III might outsell FFXV and chances are, it probably will.
