Could Ratchet & Clank PS4 Be Considered For Game Of The Year?
Generally, remakes and remasters aren't supposed to be in the running for any Game of the Year awards. After all, they originally released way back when.
However, should we make an exception in regards to the upcoming Ratchet and Clank on PlayStation 4?
Developer Insomniac has rebuilt this game from the ground up specifically for Sony's new console, and they're adding a ton of stuff, too. They've already confirmed that the majority of the arsenal will actually boast all-new weapons, and there will be lots of new areas to explore as well. Factor in those gorgeous new visuals and nobody would be surprised if this game felt brand spankin' new. Furthermore, if you consider that we really haven't seen an action/platformer like this in a long time, perhaps it really should be in the running for end-of-year honors.
Of course, this leads to another obvious question: Even updated, can R&C stand toe-to-toe with modern creations? Even with all the improvements and additions, will it still feel dated? Or, if not exactly dated, will it simply fail to compete with the likes of games designed specifically for a modern audience using modern hardware? Sometimes I wonder how people would react to this game if it wasn't a remake. If someone had never heard of the series and was shown R&C for PS4, would they say it looks or feels old? I doubt it. In fact, I think they'd probably be pretty impressed and they might even call it "unique." Because, in today's gaming world, it kinda is.
The re-imagined Ratchet and Clank launches exclusively for PlayStation 4 on April 12.
