Rumor: Playstation VR Will be Priced $299 Once it Comes out

Sony has yet to officially detail the price of PlayStation VR but according to a rumor from reddit, the upcoming virtual reality device from Sony might cost as low as $299 for the standalone product and it will also get a starter kit containing a PS Eye camera, a PS VR game and PS Move controller for $129.

This is what Reddit user sirdomino claims to be a Sony rep's report, at least:

"I spoke to a Sony rep recently (Who is NOT an official spokesman for Sony) that stated that he had heard rumors they were hoping to price the HMD at $299, which won't include the camera or PlayStation move controllers. But that they would probably have a separate starter kit where you could get the camera and move controllers and a game for around $129. For $428 + tax for the complete PSVR + camera + move controllers, would be a bargain! The reason for this is that a lot of folks already have cameras and move controllers."

As this is nothing official, let us not take this rumor too seriously.  Sony has said before that the Playstation VR will cost as much as a new console when it releases.  If Sony manages to keep the price of the PS VR at $299 once it comes out, it will be a great news to PS4 owners considering on how much Oculus is charging for their Rift headset.

I believe $299 will be a great price tag for the Playstation VR if it is indeed accurate, but I think I'll still wait for the reviews and feedback from users before I try PS VR.  How about you guys?

Sounds reasonable... I just hope the games really do take off.

this is something youd have to try hands on no matter what. experience will differ for every individual. if the games are immersive as they seem then it should be a lot of fun.

I'm not sure myself but i too would like to know if we could use it with our little 250 sized racing quads,i've been flying FPV for a few years now and i'm not sure if i'd like VR FPV but i'd still be willing to give it ago,i know you can get 3D CCD cameras and 2D/3D goggles but from what i have heard and seen it wasn't nothing special.https://www.google.co.uk/?gfe_rd=cr&ei=AqwaVc3xOq2YigbGl4DYAw&gws_rd=ssl#q=FPV+3D+CCD+camera

At $299, there's a 100% chance I'm buying it.

I've already set my mind 100% for the VR headset long ago, and I already own the PS4 camera & 2 full Move/Nav controller sets.

So if true, a $299 price-point for the head set, would be icing on the cake for me.

Just have to find the funds some way, & unfortunately I already know I can't be a 1st-day adapter just because of that, even though I want to be.

A reddit rumor? Take with a barrel of salt. I sure hope that it's true though!! $399 was what I was initially expecting, but with Oculus announced at $599 I was worried.

We'll see....

If it was Neogaf I would give this rumour some credit however being from Reddit I say take it with a grain of salt. But I have also been saying it would be $300-350 from the start so hey.

Articles this week on the Rift indicates that the minimum video card it will work with (not work WELL, but the absolute minimum) is in the $300-350 range. Very few laptops will work with the Rift, and probably most home PC's used for anything other than dedicated gaming platforms won't run them without an upgrade that costs about as much as a PS4.

SO...if this rumor is even close to true, Sony has a tremendous price advantage in this generation of VR at the start. If their tech is comparable to Rift and HTC, and they don't take so long to get to market that the prices in the PC realm drop enough to take away that advantage, then they have a good shot to dominate this generation.

And yes, I'm ignoring Microsoft - they're further from market with a less immersive option that has some cool benefits, but I think misses the mark. We'll see.

I expect to see things like this. Speculation until confirmed by Sony of course but I can also imagine detractors throwing out cray prices if only to create an unrealistic expectations. Rumor has it it will cost $100. Internet spreads like wildfire. Sony announce $300-$500. Internet burns in revolt!

Conspiracy theory? Possibly. But
