The Division's Massive Popularity Could Ultimately Set Records

The closed beta was extremely popular and the open beta, which is running right now, is getting big numbers.

So, it stands to reason that publisher Ubisoft has very high expectations for the upcoming tactical shooter, Tom Clancy's The Division.

During the publisher's Investor Day presentation, Ubisoft said the new game had the potential to become one of the biggest new IP launches of all time. This would put them in good company, alongside Bungie's Destiny and Ubisoft's other two major franchises, Assassin's Creed and Watch Dogs. Said Managing Director John Parkes (as cited by GameSpot):

"Because of its many attributes--RPG, shooter, massive online multiplayer, realistic setting in a beautifully recreated New York, great open world playable in solo or in co-op--The Division can become one of the biggest launches ever for a new IP."

He added that trailers for The Division have earned a whopping 225 million views, which is now 30 percent ahead of where Watch Dogs was one month before it hit store shelves. Plus, the closed beta saw "more registrations than any Ubisoft game ever;" in fact, over three times as many players signed up as the team expected.

Most PSXE readers who participated in the closed beta very much enjoyed the experience, and don't forget that the open beta includes a brand new story mission. Tom Clancy's The Division officially launches for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on March 8.

Then I bet you haven't played on a well balanced team, where everyone is using different weapons and skills and has a different role to play. I've had some of the best PvP battles I've ever had when we've met some teams at the extraction points.

Feelin exactly like another Destiny. That was awesome for the first few months then started to get really boring. The Division does have some really cool little details and a unique take on PvP though.

One thing I think is really cool is that once the game starts there is no loading screens unless you die. You can go from your base, to story missions and to PvP without ever getting takin out of the experience or looking at loading screens. It doesn't seem like a huge deal at first, until you play for a few hours and realize you've never stopped once for anything and you've played everything without the immersion breaking.
