Mirror's Edge Catalyst Vids Show Off New Movement, Combat
Electronic Arts has shown off a couple brief gameplay videos for the upcoming free-running title Mirror's Edge Catalyst; one highlights the acrobatic movement while the other centers on melee combat.
If you played the original, the movement should seem familiar, though protagonist Faith has several new moves in this anticipated sequel. One such maneuver is "Shift," which grants her a short burst of acceleration, while Quickturn lets her perform a 90- or 180-degree turn in the blink of an eye. She'll also have a few tools this time around; one is the mag rope, which can attach to certain surfaces, and the other is a Disruptor, which lets Faith mess up AI systems.
As for the combat, the heroine can unload light and heavy punches, and once she builds up her Focus meter, she can unleash a series of Swift attacks without losing momentum. In this Focus state, she is also invincible to enemy attacks. However, on the flip side, once she loses her Focus, she's suddenly more vulnerable, so it's a balancing act (no pun intended) and you best be careful.
Both videos are right here, and remember that Catalyst will launch on May 24 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. For more, check out the great Story Trailer, and don't forget there's a closed beta on the way.
