'Metal Gear Solid' Fan Remake project "Shadow Moses" Cancelled

Wow, I didn't know that this project exists until now.

A few months back, an incredibly impressive trailer for a fan-made remake of the original Metal Gear Solid hit the Web, and it was named 'Shadow Moses'.  Shadow Moses is a fan project to remake Metal Gear Solid using the Unreal Engine 4. Featuring all-new visuals and gameplay, it was set to show what the original game may have looked like had it released in current consoles.

The plan looked great, until it was cancelled recently.

According to the Shadow Moses Team, the Shadow Moses Project (which brought together Metal Gear Solid fans interested in remaking Metal Gear Solid with modern visuals) is no more.

In posting on the project's Facebook page, the team wrote the following:

Hi guys!
We have an important announcement to make today:
We have to cancel the Shadow Moses Project for reasons beyond our control.
We would like to thank everyone for the tremendous support we have received.
Shadow Moses team.

The team doesn't go into any further details as to "why" the plug on the project is being pulled, but it seems fairly easy to assume that it may have something to do with Metal Gear rights owner Konami not wanting fans to use its intellectual property.

Metal Gear Solid, or simply MGS1, is one of the most critically acclaimed games during the PS1 era, and one of the best games of all time.  If a remake of MGS1 would be developed for PS4, it will most surely be epic. But it certainly needs the permission of Konami if a different team, like the Shadow Moses Team, wants to develop a remake for it.  I feel sad that the project was cancelled. Konami might have some other plans in the future if they're going to do a remake of MGS1 or probably they'll just make Metal Gear Solid VI.  Any thoughts guys? Are you disappointed that the project Shadow Moses was cancelled?

The only reason why I'm disagreeing with you now is that konami has suikoden hostage. So I'm only going to say nice things to my master.

Well piss on this.

I hope they take the work and resources and make a new game out of it. A spiritual successor.

How can anyone be that upset. The company has rights to and they could make lots doing this themselves. From a business standpoint it would be irresponsible not shutting this down

When I first saw this months ago, I sent it to Ben ASAP, but he never used it.

Anyways, it's a damned shame it didn't get finished.

I hope we can at least hear the true reason why it was canceled at some point & time. And I'll wager that knowing Konami, they "screwed the pooch" nixing any deals on this one.

Well, good thing I saw this and I immediately told Ben that I'll be handling it. ^_^

I have a feeling that Konami is planning to do a remake of MGS1 in the future, so it must be the reason why they didn't let the Shadow Moses team do the remake.

I can remember when Konami use to give us quality games like Snake Eater, Silent Hill 3 and Z.O.E. They were the company to beat imo.

Now look at them, what a fall from grace.

Perhaps Konami have offered the team a job to remake it under their control??

It would explain the lack of detail in the cancellation post to keep people guessing.

Otherwise, surely the team would have said something like 'as we do not hold the rights, we have been forced to cancel our plans for this game'.

^^^^^ Yeah, that's what I was thinking that Konami should've done, as it could/would solve any problems of both party's all at once.

yeah I'm hoping for that same outcome too.
Konami could guide/influence the project and use them as an independent subsidiary.
It would be a win win for them, because let's face it this team would have finished it [by themselves] eventually.
