PlayStation Vue Makes Its Nationwide Debut, New Plan Details

Cable really does suck these days and streaming is where it's at.

If you agree, you might be willing to try PlayStation Vue: Sony has announced that their TV streaming service has made its nationwide debut, as they're expanding the service to all of the U.S.

Vue gives you live and on-demand TV programs from popular networks like ESPN, AMC, Comedy Central, Cartoon Network and more, and users have the option of new Slim multi-channel plans that are now available in the 203 newly launched markets. All of these come with a free 7-day trial, by the way:

Access Slim: 55+ channels, including live cable TV, movies, and sports channels for $29.99 per month.

Core Slim: 70+ channels, including all the channels from Access Slim with the addition of national and regional sports networks for $34.99 per month.

Elite Slim: 100+ channels, featuring all the channels from Core Slim with the addition of more top movie and entertainment channels for $44.99 per month.

There are no hidden fees or long-term contracts here, so don't worry about that. As for the difference between these new Slim plans and the standard plans previously launched in select cities (New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Dallas, San Francisco and Miami), here's the explanation:

Slim plans are only available in the newly launched markets and will offer all of the same live cable channels as the standard PlayStation Vue plans. However, ABC, FOX and NBC will offer video-on-demand (VOD)-only content. This means you’ll be able to access top network content, including primetime shows, from the three broadcast networks. Most on-demand content will be available within 24 hours after airing. CBS live and on-demand programming will also be added to select cities at a later date."

Sony says they're working to add local broadcast stations as well and for more info, visit Vue's official website. Unique streaming features include:

Cloud DVR — PlayStation Vue’s unmatched cloud DVR allows users to record hundreds of shows at once and store thousands of hours of content.

Simultaneous Streaming — a single PlayStation Vue subscription allows users to simultaneously stream content across different devices.

Powerful Interface — this seamlessly blends live and on-demand content to put top programming front and center, with innovative search and discovery tools. You can also “catch up” on many popular programming within the past three days from a show’s first live airing.

Users will also be able to access Vue programming from more than 60 network mobile apps or websites; they just have to log in with their PSN ID. ...too bad I can't get the Tennis Channel with this, though. Sadly, it's one of the few reasons I'm holding on to cable right now.

I tried vue about two months ago but cancelled it at after the free trial. They recently added more channels including Disney channels. I have a 3 year old and Disney was the breaking point. Just signed up again two days ago. Loving it so far. Was paying $100 for cable now I'll be paying $40 for vue. So far the only complaint I have is I wish you could continue watching your show while surfing through the channel guide. Otherwise everything is pretty awesome.

I recently purchased cable after being without it for years (ok maybe 2 years). I never missed it and still dont. I only purchased it because it's basically just an add on to our Internet service for now. But I really do dislike it.

That in mind I'm excited Vue is finally launched nation wide. It's about time. I'll be checking it out for sure. Plus being able to record more than two shows at once (that's all I can do with my cable) is very convenient.

Love Playstation Vue.

I did not have Cable for 4 years due to extremely high price for the channels I wanted to watch.

Playstation Vue is a bargain at $29.99 a month compared to cable.

Been using it the last 2 days and it is working beautifully. Finally can watch "The Walking Dead" on Sunday nights. And F1 racing on NBCSN
