160 PS VR Games In The Works, Over 50 Scheduled For 2016
Yes, PlayStation VR is headed our way this fall, and the price is sure to be attractive to many consumers.
Sony has given us a press release on the big news, making several bold statements and also telling us just how many developers and publishers are backing this new virtual reality endeavor.
SCE President and Global CEO Andrew House started by saying they received "a tremendous response from gamers and developers alike" after unveiling PlayStation VR at the Game Developers Conference back in 2014. Then we learned there are "currently more than 230 developers and publishers" working on software titles, ranging from smaller indie teams to major companies like Ubisoft and 2K Games. All told, there are 160 games in the works and over 50 of those titles are expected to launch before 2016 is over. Impressive, right?
On that list are anticipated games like Eagle Flight, EVE: Valkyrie, Headmaster, Wayward Sky, RIGS: Mechanized Combat League, Until Dawn: Rush of Blood and Rez Infinite. Sony will also offer "The Playroom VR" free of charge for PS VR owners when the unit launches in October, and SCE is partnering with Tools & Middleware companies to offer "innovative technology solutions that enhance the title development environment for PS VR." The device will further boast a Cinematic Mode, which will let users enjoy "a variety of content in a large virtual screen while wearing the headset."
But yes, you will need the PlayStation Camera, which doesn't come bundled with the PS4 and retails for $60. So if you don't have the camera, you'll have to add that cost to the $399 price tag. Still, are you excited?
