Mad Max Petition Results In Switch To Australian Actor

Well, of course the main character has to be Australian!

When Avalanche Studios revealed their next-gen Mad Max title, many fans of the original movie series were miffed to hear that the lead actor would be voiced by an American. ...what?

But Mel Gibson had a distinct Australian accent in those films, and to not have that is borderline sacrilegious. So the fans started up an online petition that has since drawn 2,883 signatures. And although the target is 5,000, Avalanche has already responded. Chief creative officer Christofer Sundberg gave us the good news via Twitter:

"Attn. fans who want Max to have an Aussie accent in #MadMaxGame : It shall be so. We admire your loyalty. You have been heard."

Mad Max is set to be an open-world action game with both third-person combat and vehicular battles. It's supposed to be coming to current-gen and next-gen consoles, as well as PC some time in 2014. Good to see we're getting that Australian accent! The character just wouldn't make sense otherwise, as the fans well understand.

Glad to hear it, but this game is going to have a hard time convincing players it is a better Mad Max experience than Fallout 3. Hope this one comes together well.

Akuma,
Mel Gibson played Max in the original film and he's the one who's had some unfortunate things to say about individuals of an Hebraic persuasion.

As an Aussie, I approve of this switch.

Another great example of developers listening to their fans and making appropriate changes while still early in development. Thanks Avalanche!
