PSXE Poll Update: Gamers Split On FFXV Story Potential

Square Enix really wants the narrative in the upcoming Final Fantasy XV to have a big impact on the player.

In fact, the team hopes the game's climax will make people cry, which is an ambitious goal. Considering the downward trajectory of the franchise over the years and the decreasing quality of the stories, one wonders if it's even possible.

Well, it seems the PSXE community is rather split on the idea: According to the results of our latest poll, these two answer options - "Yes, I expect a beautiful story" and "I really doubt it" - received almost exactly the same number of responses. That's not too surprising as this game has proven to be awfully polarizing over the years. Some are optimistic and believe Square Enix will successfully resurrect the dying FF IP with this new blockbuster. Others have already declared FF DOA. Personally, I don't think it's dead; it's just not Final Fantasy anymore.

This week, it's all about PlayStation VR after the slew of huge news last week. Will you be pre-ordering Sony's highly anticipated virtual reality device for PS4? Are you gonna put your money down on that Launch Bundle this week? Or do you have your reservations, which means you're planning to wait? Let us know.

It could be the most tear-inducing ending ever written, but if they don't develop the characters well leading up to the end, it won't matter. I hope they know that, too.

True that. You have to like, if not love the characters involved for the story/ending to convey emotion and really provoke the emotional response of tears.

Not many games today can even come close to pulling that off.

I cried at the end of XIII-2. Oh, wait, you don't mean because of lackluster gameplay & headache-inducing storyline, do you?!

I have a feeling the PS4 VR just won't be powerful enough. Even the minimum specs for Oculus require a video card that is as expensive as a PS4 all by itself, which is just batty if you ask me.

Definitely going to wait and see on this tech.
