Battleborn Open Beta Dated, Coming First To PlayStation 4
Are you psyched for Gearbox Software's latest effort?
If so, you'll be happy to know that the open beta has been dated, and you'll be even happier if you're a PlayStation 4 owner.
As announced over at the PlayStation Blog, the Battleborn open beta is just around the corner and it will debut on Sony's console.
It will be available to play on April 8, while Xbox One and PC players have to wait until April 13 to dive in. In the beta, participants will get a chance to sample 25 distinctly different heroes, and they can test out Story Mode or the five-on-five Competitive Multiplayer matches. Furthermore, if you enter the open beta on PS4, you'll receive the first piece of downloadable content and instant access to Alani upon the game's release. Plus, only PS4 players will be able to select the hero Toby during the beta test.
You can pre-load the beta on PS4 on April 6 at 5 p.m. PST (it'll take up about 8.5 GB, by the way), so the nonstop fun is right around the corner!
In related news, publisher 2K Games confirmed to VideoGamer that you will always need an Internet connection to enjoy Battleborn, even if you're only interested in the single-player experience:
"Battleborn requires an internet connection to play, whether you're playing single-player, co-operatively with friends, or competitively against others. One of the reasons for this is that experience points earned in Battleborn's Story Mode carry over to Multiplayer and vice-versa.
All XP earned through the game's persistent progression system contributes to leveling up individual Character Rank, as well as player profile Command Rank. In addition, maintaining data integrity is a major priority for the team, and online gameplay permits player's data to be accessible, even after experiencing a hardware malfunction or purchasing a new console."
Additionally, a PlayStation Plus account is necessary for "certain gameplay and functionality," which is also no surprise. Personally, I don't see how anyone can expect anything different these days, especially for a game that essentially thrives on multiplayer. Just last week, Battleborn went gold, which means it'll be ready to go on PS4, Xbox One and PC on May 3.
