PSXE Poll Update: PS4 Won't Be Ready For Quite A While
Nobody thinks the PlayStation 4 is going to look like this, do they? It's the only fake mock-up we've got, though.
In our latest poll, we wanted to know when you thought the next PlayStation would hit store shelves; there have been plenty of rumors swirling. As it turns out, most readers don't think it'll arrive until holidays 2013, and nearly as many don't expect to see it until 2014.
It'll be even later if Sony doesn't make a new console for the next generation (although most don't believe that to be true). All of this flies in the face of Sony's insistence to not launch a new machine behind the pack, so-to-speak; they've said they don't want to let Microsoft beat them to market again. But recently, Sony has said they're happy with the PS3's position, and they fully intend to focus on the PlayStation Vita.
Now, we realize we're only a couple weeks away from Final Fantasy XIII-2. There are plenty of differing opinions out there, so what's yours? Come on, scale of one to five, one being the least interested, five meaning you'll get it on launch day.

I am getting FF13-2 day1. I liked FF13 and there is every reason to believe that this is an improved sequel. I do have some reservations about the two playable charaters in FF13-2, but that won't stop me from buying it.

Having played the demo, I am hoping the that mog clock does not interupt the game too much and that I can find some connection with Serah, other than that the demo answered most of my other questions and I cannot wait.

As for XIII-2 from the demo it fixes:
- Changing party member in battle
- I the party leader dies it switches to the other character.
- The tedious weapon upgrading is gone.
- Chocolina as the sassy merchant, no more save points as your only friend.
Things I am still sceptical on:
- Mog clock: Either have the enemies on the screen at all times or just random encounters. I don't like how eneimes suddenly pop up around you (off screen too)
- Mog Treaure Hunter:
MOg alerts you to hidden treaure, I just hope there is not a treasure hunter trophy like in XIII-1
- Wound system:
In XIII-2 your character can be wounded, which decreases your HP limit in battle, so you have to heal wounds and HP seperately - tedious.
- Enviroments:
Sure they're bigger, but on the demo I had a very brief look around and then moved on, the enviroment just wasnt very interesting, I haev heard it gets better though...
I love the new monster ally system, It seems very indepth. I am hoping many classic FF enemies are available for recruiting.
But yeah, I really cannot wait, I go back to my PS3 next week and I intend to playthrough FFXIII quickly before XIII-2

My interest in FF XIII-2 is definitely a 1. I was so mad when playing the demo that I had to force myself to finish it. People complained about how the combat was too twitchy and how it no longer played like an rpg and S-E said that they listened to their fans and gave them what they wanted. Lies! As far as I could tell from the demo, none of the 'fixes' actually did anything meaningful and the combat still feels much more like an action game than an rpg.
Yes, you can pause combat now, but the screen blacks out and won't let you examine you situation and plan out the rest of the fight.
Yes, you can switch the party leader, but you can only do so on the current leaders turn and the rest of the party is still automated in the meantime making this a useless mechanic for those who want to control their entire party.
Yes, you can continue fighting after the party leader dies, but only if one of two humas are alive. The monster (which the game forces you to use) cannot be controlled and it's game over if the monster is the only living party member, even if it's a healing class.
While the demo is obviously not large enough to fully show this off, but it looks like the game opens things up and gives the player more freedom. But they restrict you to only only two real characters, which, IMO, will feel even more constrained and will still lack the sense of epicness that FF was once known for. And I guess people who don't like either, or both, of those characters are his SOL.
Long story short, if this is how S-E 'listens to their fans', then I hope that they stop. At least then it'll be more honest.

I don't think it can reasonably be called action or twitch gameplay, because in action games you actually have control of your character. To me, it feels more like a very constricted RTS, with all the lack of unit control that makes me (a fan of strategy games) dislike RTSs. I do understand the comparisons to action games, however, due to the frenetic pace of the on-screen action. I could rarely tell what my two allies were doing and whether it was being effective, which limited my ability to strategize. In the end, playing involved a lot of pressing X, even more so than in other FF games.
The game has all the weaknesses of earlier FFs without the strengths.
The demo didn't merely fail to convince me to buy FFXIII-2, it convinced me never to buy FFXIII. Not fun at all.
I guess I can re-play FFXII if I want to enjoy a well-made combat system.

Is this why some say they will sit out this next gen? Rather than be behind MS, they will skip this next gen and hit the next and be first ahead of MS? That way they squeeze the most out of PS3 and also concentrate on Vita?
I don't think that will happen, but perhaps.
