Square Enix Considering Making More FFXV Ultimate Editions

News Images II - 10699

Last week, when Square Enix unleashed the Final Fantasy XV media blitz, we saw the two special editions the publisher will offer.

One of these special editions, the jam-packed Ultimate Collector's Edition, rapidly sold out at Square Enix's online store. Obviously, the steep $270 price tag didn't dissuade consumers.

But fans are still clamoring for this package, so the company might make more. Square Enix originally said they'd only produce 30,000 Ultimate Collector's Editions but due to demand, they're reconsidering that number. According to what they said on the game's Japanese Twitter page (as translated by Siliconera), there's a chance fans can pre-order again in the future:

"[T]he preorders for the Ultimate Collector's Edition vanished in a flash, and we've received plenty of voices from those that weren't able to acquire it. We are terribly sorry about that. At the moment, we're continuing with internal coordination to see if we can somehow increase its production. We will make an announcement as soon as there's any progress!"

Click through the link above to find out what's in the package; there are several highly collectible items. But is it worth $270? After playing the demo, what do you think?

Final Fantasy XV will release on September 30 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One; a PC version could follow. Recently, director Hajime Tabata clarified his 10 million sales goal statement, saying 10 million wasn't necessary for the project to break even. It's merely an internal goal...and frankly, an insane one. That would be 10 times what Lightning Returns sold.

It's funny how the demo reminds me so much of Lightning Returns demo but less responsive.

Those "extra" special editions are already made. They wouldn't fire up the molds again, it's all part of the marketing light and shadow game folks.

Maybe, maybe not. Lately SE has been a bit more forth-coming with information, or perhaps I am spoiled by the candor of Yoshida Naoki who has a knack for actually coming forward and taking responsibility for mistakes as well as telling people what's actually going on behind the scenes some times. I would bet that they did actually underestimate the demand for the special edition, but I bet that they didn't need to dust off the molds for the figures either. More likely they held back some special edition sets for retailers, and decided to put them in stock on their own site to satisfy local demand.

Just wondering whether there is a Digital collector's edition or not. It's a different game of course, but FFXIV sold a lot of digital collector's editions thanks to the inclusion of exclusive in-game goodies such as mounts and minions.

Do yourself a favor and spend the $270 on a decent hooker.

For me this gonna be always FFXIII's spin off that was one of the exclusives supposed to help the PS3.

LOL I know, right?!?!

I was never as excited for it as versus as I was for the original XIII, but when that logo switched to XV a couple years ago, I felt a little side-stepped.

I have no issues getting the game if it's good. I would say I'm cautiously optimistic. But I need to see reactions first. Plus, if it sells poorly, you know you can wait for it on the cheap. lol

I think the Internet reaction to FFXIII forced their hand with respect to making it FFXBV. The reaction of many, including the sentiment that FFXIII might be a good game, but was a terrible Final Fantasy game seems to have stung SE a bit. FFXV looks like it's trying to regain some of the feel of FF games of the past (based on the trailers I've seen). So perhaps this will be a better FF game, even if it's not as good of a game as FFXIII...though for many if it's better at being FF than FFXIII was, it'll be a better game regardless.

I think the fact that the only property they had was FF Versus while there was an unfillable hole in their finances due to FFXIII, the need to keep the FFXIV community going strong after the cost of fixing its disastrous rollout, and no workers to focus on a Final Fantasy XVI forced their hand in pretending Versus could pass as a numbered title.

from what I can remember of FFXIII this looks different. I understand why some are saying they will wait and see. I can see the roots of the same engine that runs FFXIV in the gameplay in the trailer. I'm not as pessimistic as it seems others are about this game. Time will tell I suppose.

You get to ride a chocobo, so it can't be all bad. It also looks a lot more open than anything I saw of the various FFXIII games.

Not sure at all about that 10 million sales target, that seems nuts to me. I mean, I would hope it will outsell anything Lightning did, but 10 million seems very steep.

Not yet, but I suppose I had better get to it.

Though I've been neglecting Eorzea of late due to no time during the evenings, so I'll need to strike a balance.

Fair warning, Highlander: If you aren't willing to learn the intricacies of fast-action combat that includes dodge-rolling, warping, back-flips, combos, etc., you're gonna be unhappy. Oh, and don't forget that all your "magic" is basically thrown like you would a grenade in a third-person action game and the "magic points" are actually used for your combat skills.

SAD.

LOL, well, I'll give the demoa try. The battle system in FFXIV is pretty dodge heavy, but it's not an action system, and has a 2.5 second global cool down (decreases with level and gear, but not by that much. The cooldown gives a bit more time, like a turn based system, but although people think 2.5 seconds sounds like an eternity, it's much more fluid in action than on paper due to off GCD skills, movement, targeting, and in the case of several damage dealer roles positioning for combos.

I'll be interested in the contrast with FFXV.

Nice, I like Fetch's backstory. I should put some effort into creating a backstory that allows KOS-MOS to end up in Eorzea as a Miqo'te...I'll do it sometime soon.

To justify why it sold out so quickly - there have been people out there waiting for this game since 10 years ago. ...10 YEARS AGO - A DECADE. So of course many of them wanted something which justifies that wait.

Whether the actual game will be that great is still yet to be determined considering SE has half a year to optimize it.

However - even if it isn't optimized w/ its obvious frame rate issues/movement/controls/etc - the fans who have been waiting 10 years for it, getting a 6-episode anime series, a CG movie, mini-game, soundtrack, Noctis figure, artbook, bonus content and in-game items will not be disappointed - because the game will be out, the wait will be over, and they got loads of stuff to justify the long wait.

Many of the fans who already love the demo - are big KH fans and people who have been waiting for XV ever since it was announced as Versus XIII.

So to them it's probably gonna be GOTY.

By industry standards - it won't be GOTY.

To hardcore FF fans of VI and VII - this game wont be an FF game, nor GOTY, nor a good game - just trash.

To all those who don't like the OST just because it ain't Nobuo Uematsu - you guys are messed up, its damn gorgeous.
