Gran Turismo Sport Retail Release To Include PlayStation VR Compatibility

The PlayStation VR is scheduled to release this coming October, and there are 160 PS VR games in the works with over 50 that are scheduled to release for 2016. Among those games are anticipated games like Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, Rez Infinite, etc. But there is also another anticipated game that will be compatible with PS VR and it belongs to one of Sony's best franchise series, Gran Turismo Sport.

Originally unveiled at Paris Games Week (PGW) last year, Gran Turismo Sport has been linked to PlayStation VR on several occasion. However, there has been some debate as to the software packages that will come at retail. According to Amazon, the boxed release of GT Sport will include PlayStation VR content as standard, meaning that the game will be Playstation VR compatible when it releases. Gran Turismo Sport will be the first Gran Turismo game to be compatible with the Playstation VR, allowing players that own both to be able to act like they’re actually driving one of the series’s many stunning-looking cars.

The Playstation VR will be launching in October, but a beta will still be available for Gran Turismo Sport and the Playstation VR before the game finally releases in the second half of 2016.

I think the PS VR will be a great complement accessory to Gran Turismo Sport. Imagine playing Gran Turismo Sport in a virtual reality environment, it looks awesome! Also, using the PlayStation VR with Gran Turismo Sport will allow people to actually experience the game’s first-person driving mode in a safer environment rather than actual sports-car racing might offer, with cars that they’ll never be able to really own. I'm not a racing fan and I'm not a fan of Gran Turismo, but I'm intrigued on playing Gran Turismo Sport together with PS VR.  How about you guys?

Hnnnnnnnngggg. I'm literally skipping Assetto Corsa for this. That's how far I'm going. Don't disappoint.

Gran Turismo Sport, aka Polyphony desperately hoping we forget that PS4 has been around for 2 and a half years and they still haven't delivered Gran Turismo 7 for it.

Hey, Polyphony what have you been doing these past 2 and a half years? Gimme my Gran Turismo 7.

Gran Turismo Sport is simply another place holder designed to keep us waiting for the real thing.

I myself can't wait for GT7, and also fear that this is just another tech demo that is passing by...

...but, we must not forget that GT Sport was designed to be a sort of online gateway for "real life" sporting competitions that. And I quote:

"You’ll be able to compete in virtual championships and have the results of those officially recognized by the FIA through a Nations Cup and Manufacturers Cup. Winners will be treated like real-life racing drivers and presented awards at the FIA annual ceremony in Paris. Sony is also taking this opportunity to turn Gran Turismo into an E-Sports event, and of course adding support for PlayStation VR."

At least, that is what Jim Ryan (SCEE CEO) explained to Eurogamer.. heh..

Oh, I can understand that, and it's a good idea to try to get GT Sport as a recognized e-sport, after all it's not like everyone can try out for F1 racing IRL, but in the virtual world, all is possible. FIA isn't so big in the IS, so although this probably plays well in Japan, Europe and the rest of the world, inside the NA cultural bubble, not so much - unfortunately.

Either way, Polyphony should have taken on some new developers to work on the Sport version alongside the console game GT7, the way this looks right now, mainstream consumers looking for GT7 are being deferred again in favor of this new thing.
