Amazon Sold Out Of PS4, Xbox One Standard Editions

GameStop.com is out of standard PS4s, and now Amazon has run dry.

The mega online retailer has sold all its stock of both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One release day editions. Via Twitter, the company said you could still pre-order the Standard Editions, but they can't guarantee a delivery date.

GameStop.com should still have a few bundles available, so you can try there. After all, you're going to want at least one game with your new system, right? Retailers everywhere are seeing high demand for both next generation consoles; the Xbox One has become more popular after Microsoft rescinded their controversial policies. However, a new online petition has called for Microsoft to reinstate those policies...as bizarre as that may sound.

Got your PS4 pre-ordered yet?

Nope.
I am curious how many weeks/days/hours people will wait in line for one though. It's always nice seeing them 'gamers' or 15 member Chinese families (one unit for each kid, you know ;) camped out in front of a big retailer shop for days.

MS will probably pay people to stand in line all night, buy up the PS4s and burn them in the parking lot.

@World

That doesnt help sales. If MS buy their own box and burn them... then, they are going somewhere.

PS4, no. Xbox One, yes. I wonder what the limit was on each one. It seems by askreports Sony will have a lot more systems available on the market this holiday. If they can sell every one of those 15 million....that will be an amazing feat. Given the buzz it has, th they may be able to

I'm not going to ask you why you're getting an Xbox One first because I know you want to say "'cuz it has better games"
Which it doesn't. So there!

Good talk.

lol. No, I definitely wouldn't say that. It's that I love the Dead Rising series and Killer Instinct sealed the deal. It's Double Helix but that gameplay is looking sweet. I hope the roster is good. No cutscenes for Supreme Victories though. That sucks. I'll get a PS4 when Second Son drops, for sure. I really hope the franchise takes off with this one. It's underappreciated..

I'd like to have KI. Hopefully it does well enough to turn into a living franchise again. At that point I'd probably become interested again in the series. That is at and if the eventual point ever arrives that I lay down bank for another console beyond the priority ones.

Killer Instinct was a nice announcement until I learned it was F2P and you'd have to buy more characters OTL

Probably gonna wait till Xmas at the earliest, maybe longer. I need a killer app! I hope something really awesome gets announced for launch between now and release day. I know that's probably too much to ask for though.

*Looks at giant backlog*

Agreed. Infamous, Uncharted, or Last of Us, Ratchet & Clank. Any one of those games on the PS4 will be a reason to buy right away.

I'm actually curious on how many of the boxes are reserved for Japanese launch. I don't want that Xbox nonsense where they buy all the JRPG and get the crappy ports.

This time around Sony is ready. If they get a port, it'll be a superior port, plus they are fully loaded with first party titles until the MS's third party timed-exclusives expire.

actually, most asian countries wont get xbox ones until 2014. im assuming all those countries the 360 did horrible in would be skipped, especially japan. my guess is that so they can spin the publicity in their favor. like were dominating in US, which i doubt they will. that or stock of xbox ones are sold out "worldwide".

i can see the ps4 being sold out, people loved what they heard. only way xbox one is sold out is if microsoft decided to limit supplies in order to create a sold out headline. that or they prebought their own systems to give them out at their own event or a talk show. kinda like they did with the 360s and kinects.

As much as I'd love to buy a PS4 early, my limited budget is preventing me from doing so.
And now that I think about it, I was never an early adopter.
PS1 in 1999, PS2 in 2003 and PS3 in December 2009.

Though I plan to buy it by mid or fall 2014.

Quick question. Are local Gamestops going to have lets say 5 extra PS4's per store for people that don't preorder?

Launch sell outs are misleading since the supplies differ so greatly. Sony has, on average, more PS4 consoles available for purchase at nearly every retailer than Microsoft's X1.

Now for some guestimating...

Many large retail outlets have been reporting up to 80 (many with 100+) PS4s available for pre-order while X1 generally has less than 20, a ratio of about 4:1. Going off figures leaked by employees, one can draw an educated guess to what the current launch supply of the PS4 and X1 for the US market sits at. Taking the estimated total number of large retail stores (GameStop, BestBuy, Walmart, Target, etc) and using the estimated average of consoles per store...The PS4 looks to sit around 800,000 (possibly up to 1 mil). This would put the X1 at about 200,000-300,000 units available for launch day.

Now if we were to lower that PS4 to X1 ratio just a tad to even out the competition a bit more and offer more tangible numbers, say a ratio of 3:1 the numbers still favor Sony considerably.

PS4 = 560,000 estimated total launch units (NA)
X1 = 200,000 estimated total launch units (NA)

I personally think Sony is far ahead of MS in production and will have many more consoles available at launch. MS will be lucky if they reach 800,000 units available World Wide for sale on launch day. Sony, I suspect will have more than 1 million available for both territories.

Summary...estimated available units;

PS4 = 800,000(NA-highend) / 560,000(NA-lowend)
X1 = 350,000(NA-highend) / 200,000(NA-lowend)

PS4 = 200,000(PAL-highend) / 140,000(PAL-lowend)
X1 = 150,000(PAL-highend) / 100,000(PAL-lowend)
