Sony: We Can Access Our Digital PS4 Libraries On Any System

That's a nice bonus, huh?

Sony engineer Neil Brown told Develop (as cited by OPM UK) that any gamer's digital library will be available on any system:

"You can visit your friend's house you can log into your account and play any game from your digital library, which is good."

Furthermore, Brown added that by leveraging the PS4's "Play As You Download" feature, gamers will be able to play "at least the first section" of any game immediately. The rest will be downloaded in the background. All of this makes the digital library a very "practical option," according to Brown, and it's a big plus for Sony. Microsoft's Xbox One offers a similar feature; we'll be able to play any titles that are digitally stored on the cloud.

I'm not quite so impatient that I need to play a game while it's still downloading, but I imagine this feature will be well-received by many.

Sounds like a great reason to actually BUY digital! Take your whole library to a buddy's house? Check. Bringing the PS4 on vacation AND all my games in limited space? Check. Increased load times? (Guessing) check. I'm sure there are other reasons too.

Hmmm......interesting. May have to re-evaluate my love of physical media. Can you do a full install of any game on PS4 and not need the disc in the drive? No, right? Hmmmmmm........

At least it's an customer friendly incentive. If you want games on disk then you can do that and if you want the flexibility of digital then you can go that way. Sony views digital as the future and this is a good way to nudge people that way without stripping them of their rights.

I thought Sony was going to put the kibosh on game sharing. I'm very happy to have been wrong about that. Great news.

Depends on if there's restriction on activation like when they cut us from 5 to 2, that was a low point for Sony.

There is a second smaller processing unit in the PS4 that handles the downloading process while the main processing unit is used for game and OS features. PS3 does not have that.

Just access and play my games on others consoles.

My service is priced at a premium, like PS + except you won't get premium services.

Sorry, I thought you were referring to the download while you play. Right now all purchases are registered to accounts and consoles but you can have unlimited gamertags. I think Sony is going to register all purchases to your account/gamertags but not consoles. Instead all info will be saved on Gaikai cloud servers for download and stream. Right now, they only have cloud backup servers and not cloud servers for services.

Instead of registering games to consoles and accounts, you will register them to accounts/gamertags, only. But only one person can play under the same gamertag at one time. Sony will probably cap how many gamertags can be activated under a single account. So if you have three different gamertags under one account, you can have three people playing the same game from that account but no more. But, who knows? Sony might shift their whole infrastructure to include the PS3 when the PS4 launches. I just think they'll keep current PS3 policies so that don't piss people off. Just my guess, though.

Thus the gradual move to digital downloads only, Slow and steady.... ease the masses in to the future... everyone is happy in the end. Well... some might not be but most I think.

You hear that MS?

Keep Playing!

Probably have to be in your own account, which means you wouldn't be able to play at the same time? Just a guess.

This is one of many features that Sony has, but doesn't make much noise about.

Like, how they can ALSO do cloud computation. Or how they ALREADY have digital TV features.

I don't how useful this will be. My console does not move, I do not ever play on anyone else's console, so how is this going to help me?
