Promising Story-Driven Oxenfree Coming To PS4 This Month

If you're looking for a creepy, original story, you need to try this out at the end of the month.

As announced over at the PlayStation Blog, the spine-tingling narrative-driven Oxenfree will land on PlayStation 4 on May 31.

The game follows the tale of a girl named Alex, who brings her new stepbrother Jonas to a party on a decommissioned military island and of course, everything goes terribly wrong. There's a supernatural twist to the story and your decisions will shape the adventure; developer Sean Krankel says to envision "Freaks and Geeks but with possession, time loops, and terror."

The idea is to cast the player in a gripping thriller that is "frightening, funny, and meaningful in varying doses." The game also doesn't follow a strict linear progression, either, as you can explore, talk, and solve puzzles at will. The duo that created this title (Sean and his cousin, Adam) has made improvements "to push the experience beyond anything the publish has seen yet," and this includes transforming the DualShock 4 into the game's supernatural radio. Plus, we get a New Game+ mode that will continue Alex's story "with a new purpose."

The game has already received the IGN award for Excellence in Visual Art and it might earn more awards before all is said and done. Check out the trailer:

Looks just weird enough to be my kind of thing.

Played it on steam. I really liked it- but word of warning, it's VERY short. Like 3-5 hours getting all the collectibles, with little reason to play again. I felt kinda bummed I spent $20 on it. Perfect $10 title for any budget conscious types. Also strikes me as a future PS Plus title

The article mentions New Game Plus features, which really intrigued me. Is that new to the PlayStation version, or is it the same as the original?

That's brand new. I believe the Xbox/PC version is getting that patched in when the PS version comes out. It would've definitely made the game longer for me when it launched
