Updated: Remastered inFAMOUS on the way?

(Update: Since this article was posted, some evidence has emerged that sugests the image is a fake making the original 'report' of the Amazon listing little more than a hoax.

No official statements from any parties who would be involved is there was an inFAMOUS remaster ether.

Many thanks to an eagle eyed reader - DuoMaxwell007 who posted a link to the evidence...)

photoshopery and fakery

How would you like to replay he original inFAMOUS on your PS4 in full HD glory? You would? Well, you might well get your chance. Several reports suggest that Amazon has leaked the existence and release date of a remastered version of Sucker Punch's classic title inFAMOUS.

But, that's not all, the listing also made mention of a demo of an upcoming Spider Man title for PS4. The listing on Amazon appears to have been yanked, but there are a few images of it in circulation. A release date of August 10, 2016 is indicated.

Amazon listing for inFAMOUS Lightning Editon?

I'd like to think that this is a real release. As much as people criticize developers for remastering or rebooting games, there is an appetite for replaying classic games from prior platforms. It's fashionable to dismiss backward compatibility, but s we have seen both Sony and Microsoft have worked on providing that capability in their consoles. Sony even has PlayStation Now, a service to allow you to replay PS3 games on your PS4.

Even so, there is nothing quite like playing the game natively on your current console. Remastered games often include extras that were DLC with the original release, bug fixes and of course a visual overhaul of the game. Ratchet and Clank recently showed that a full reboot can work, even if much of the game is very directly lifted from the original title.

I am sure we can all think of games from prior PlayStation consoles on the PlayStation 4. inFAMOUS was certainly one of the better games on PS3, so a PS4 remaster can't be anything but 'good' as far as I am concerned. The listing showed a full game price of $59.99, which seems high. Perhaps the Lightning Edition brings us the complete story of Cole from inFAMOUS and inFAMOUS 2 in a single package?

Surely, that would be worth the price?

Man- the remasters are getting old. Almost 3 full years into this gen and we're still doing this crap? BC is a much better avenue to replay old titles that you already own.

Hopefully this means Sucker Punch is revealing a new game (inFamous or new IP) at E3

So true. Fact of the matter is remasters are still just old games with new paint jobs. Mechanically the same doesn't change the experience and new visuals don't enhance it.

Not all people who own ps4 have ps3, so this is the change for them to experience this masterpiece with better graphics...

If it includes 1,2 and festival of blood then I might get it when cheaper otherwise I want a new one or a new ip from SP.

That would be awesome. Except of course the studio responsible is no more, although their dev team no works for Codemasters.

Oh man, we seriously need a next-gen Motorstorm.

The whole Burnout thing is happening again. Why are they abandoning these titles?

A new Burnout would be great too...

EA killed (figuratively) Burnout when they essentially made Criterion the Need for Speed developers. Back when Burnout Paradise was Criterion's 'own' game it rocked, but EA took a far stronger hand and suddenly there was DLC to enable every car. After that, no more Burnout from the team, just Need for Speed.

Ok, I guess that explains why I noticed a Burnout vibe from the newer Need for speed games.

But couldn't criterion still work on a new Burnout game if they wanted to?

Or is it off the table for good? (For whatever stupid reason...)

I think that the focus on Need for Speed games was a EA political thing. internally NFS games have more capital, and because of the movies, more name recognition. Personally, I think the Burnout games were better. I still hope that one day we'll see some kind of Burnout Paradise 2, but I won't hold my breath.

Who do I have to eat to get a new Burnout? Heck a ps4 remaster of Paradise with all the dlc would have me happy for life.

This is one that could REALLY benefit from being on PS4. It was a TON of resources for SP to work with on a new system and while they did well it had moments if stiltedness that the PS4 could smooth out big time.

I'd buy it in a New York minute. Especially to support SP to bring back Cole for inFamous 3 and send Delsin to an early grave.

No sure if I care too much for this. The Plat for infamous gives me bad memories, which led me to just play infamous 2 to finish faster and enjoy the closure.

If true, happy that players will get to enjoy it with the best performance it was meant to have!

When it goes cheap I may buy to show support.

This is what Sony studios are working on? More remasters of already HD PS3 games? Come on. We are halfway thru this generation and we should get excited for cashgrabs, I mean Remasters.

Though I loved the first InFamous, I'm only one blast shard away from the platinum, I wish they focused their efforts into a new game.

I might actually get this if it comes out. But more for my collection, as I'm not sure I'd go through it again. I'd be more likely to play it again if Sucker Punch didn't do another inFamous, though...and they better. ;)

I loved Infamous 1 and thought Infamous 2 was a classic. Can't lie this has me excited, but at the same time I have realized amazing games on the PS3 don't mean amazing experiences on the PS4. I've noticed that gameplay mechanics have become more precise and direct with new consoles causing a disconnect when you play old titles from the prior generation.

It's like San Andreas on the PS2 and GTAIV on the PS3. San Andreas on PS3 still felt like an old ass game. Thank god GTAV already felt next gen so the upgrade to PS4 was easy.

Played the Uncharted Collection recently and walked away unimpressed. Now I fear if they ever remaster Mass Effect for PS4, I will be disappointed!!!lol

I completely understand that there is a market for remastered editions but it is taking away resources from an already stale market.

Plus there needs to be an unwritten law put into play where say ten years has had to pass since the original, or at least a generation of consoles in between, otherwise the gaming industry is gonna become just like Hollywood, just my two cents.

Man I dont know. I liked the game but one play through was enough. Now another remaster? I'm not sure I'm on board. Although I do appreciate giving PS4 owners who hadn't played it before a chance. For that reason I can get behind this.
