Battlefield 1 Officially Revealed, Its First Details, Release Date, And Collectors Edition

EA has officially announced the next game in the Battlefield series: Battlefield 1. The game will be set in World War I. "We chose the name because we're going back to the true dawn of all out warfare," lead game designer Daniel Berlin said at a private event near San Francisco for press and fans, "and this is the genesis of what modern warfare is today." The game will be out on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC starting on October 21st, and an open beta will take place later this year. You can see the official reveal trailer of the game below.

This marks the first time the Battlefield series will dive into WWI, and judging from the trailer shown off, the game takes full advantage of next-gen console power to make both combat and environments bigger, more varied and (naturally) more violent. Some rumors made it sound as if the game would present an alternate-reality version of WWI, but it looks as if Battlefield 1 is reasonably faithful to its source material. It was a time when historical warfare tactics and weapons collided with a totally new technology, and as such the game naturally presents a variety of different combat colliding all at once.

In a blog post, EA said Battlefield 1 contains some of the largest and "most dynamic battles in FPS history" and will include battles on land, in the air, and in the sea. "Tanks, planes, machine guns, artillery – a lot of the tech you've used in other Battlefield games was perfected during this era, letting the classic Battlefield DNA shine through," EA wrote. Locations confirmed so far include France, Italy, and the Arabian Desert.

A Collector's Edition was also revealed for $219.99, you can see it below.

The Collector's Edition will include the following:

  • Battlefield 1 Deluxe Edition Base Game
  • Collector’s Edition Statue (14" Tall)
  • Exclusive Steel book
  • Exclusive cloth poster
  • Deck of playing cards
  • Messenger pigeon tube with exclusive DLC content
  • Exclusive patch
  • Premium packaging

The Collector's Edition is available for pre-order now. The game looks amazing. The first Battlefield game that I've played is Battlefield 4, and I would say that it is one of the most intense shooting games that I've played. And I would probably try this new game on October 21st. How about you guys?

WWI could definitely be interesting. I've always wanted a game to focus on it.

The already cool trailer was aided by a bad-ass song, definitely keeping this on my radar.

DICE has got one helluva graphics engine on their hands. Looks like an improved version of the Battlefront engine.

EDIT: I guess at this point in time we have to be wondering if the "actual in game footage" is running on a PS4 Neo

I really enjoyed the helicopters in other Battlefield games, so I'll miss those. Bi and tri planes do look like fun though, and I wonder what they are going to do with airships (in terms of MP)!!
