Witcher Studio CEO Approves of PS4/Xbox One Cross-Network Play
Marcin Iwinski, CEO of The Witcher developer-publisher CD Projekt, has come out heavily in favor of Microsoft's decision to allow for cross-network play.
"The announcement about cross-play?" he told GI.biz, "F**kin' yeah. Cross-play with other networks? That's not the Microsoft of ten years ago. No way. And Sony is very fast coming back and saying, 'Yes, yes, with us it's okay.' And that's great." Iwinski seemingly sees the move as totally positive: "It's not the battle of who can make a better ghetto any more," he explained, "but who is better for the gamer. That's what we're after. It's about opening up and competing on who has the better offer."
Meanwhile, Sony has been publicly stating that its "happy to have the conversation" with game creators interested in running online services across multiple platforms. Psyonix's Rocket League is believed to be the first game aiming to cross the PS4-Xbox One online divide - the devs have said they have it "figured out", and appear to be waiting on approval from both sides.
Well, like I said in my previous article last month, I'm still not in favor for PS4/Xbox One cross-network play. While I don't mind playing online games with Xbox gamers, I just feel that it's a wasted time and effort for Sony to invest on this cross-network play when they could just spend their money to improve the PS4 (system updates, PS plus, PSN) or just spend their money to make PS4 games. I know Sony is thinking of this and that's why they're hesitant to indulge on this cross-network play. Well, it's just my personal opinion. Any thoughts guys?
