Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster Hits PC This Week

Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2 are out on Windows PC this week, according to a retail listing for the games on Steam. A bundle containing high-definition remasters of both PlayStation 2 games will be available this Thursday, May 12.

The official Final Fantasy Twitter account confirmed the ports earlier today, after the store page went live on Steam hours earlier. This Thursday's release marks the classic game and its direct sequel's — a first for the Final Fantasy franchise — PC debut.

The games come with dual Japanese and English voice options, auto-save and five "enhancements," including a no-encounter mode and the option to turn up the speed. Similar boosts were included in the recent Steam port of Final Fantasy 9, which also hit mobile earlier this year.

You can see the PC system requirements of the games below.

Minimum:

  • OS: Windows Vista or later.
  • Processor: 2GHz Dual Core CPU.
  • Memory: 1 GB RAM.
  • Graphics: NVIDIA Geforce 9600GT VRAM 512MB or later / ATI Radeon HD 2600XT VRAM 512MB or later.

Final Fantasy X tells the story of a star blitzball player, Tidus, who journeys with a young and beautiful summoner named Yuna on her quest to save the world of Spira from an endless cycle of destruction wrought by the colossal menace Sin. Final Fantasy X-2 returns to the world of Spira two years after the beginning of the Eternal Calm. Having been shown a mysterious but familiar image in a sphere, Yuna becomes a Sphere Hunter and along with her companions Rikku and Paine, embarks on a quest around the world to find the answers to the mystery within. Based on the international versions of the games that were previously only released in Japan and Europe, FINAL FANTASY X/X-2 HD Remaster brings these timeless classics forward to the current generation of fans, old and new alike.

It's a good thing that Square-Enix decided to release this amazing compilation game on PC. FFX and FFX-2 are one of the best RPG games during the PS2 era, and their remastered versions deserved to be released on multiple platforms. For PC gamers who haven't played FFX and FFX-2 and are undecided whether to try those 2 games, you can view the trailer below to help you decide on buying the game.

Will def pick this up. More excited for what appears to be the inevitable Steam release of XII, though. I have played X a dozen times, but XII only twice, and I could really go for some more wacky adventures of Balthier and Fran.

Nevr played 12. It was the one released just before the PS3 arrived and just after my PS2 died :( I would look forward to playing it for the first time.

I know this is great for everyone and all... but I feel just a smidgen cheesed out in my self centered kind of way.

More so because PS4 special edition+ buyers like me don't get this Speed Mode, No Encounter boosts...
This makes me really mellow out.

Well it's not like you have to play games only on Playstation. Just get a Steam account and buy this.

I'm offended you don't think I game on Steam. Am part of the population that constantly buys unnecessary shi*t like this on it haha.

Seriously hurt.

In a quandary. I have it for the PS2 but no PS2. Should I get it off the Network for the PS3 or the PC off Steam. It would be around the same price. I dont know if the controls would screw me up, also the FF9 controls are supposedly a little wonky if using the keyboard instead of a controller according to a few reviews I have read.

Funny thing about FFX. I have ADHD and so even though I loved FF8 I never beat it, nor any other game I had ever played. (Though to be fair I had played mostly sports games at the time and you cant really beat those.) So when I got FFX I played 2/3 the way through and like usual cast it aside. However I had to know what happened to Titus and Yuna, even though the story is kinda cheesy it got me, and so I picked it up and finished it. So FFX was the first game I ever played beginning to end, and by that time I had been playing for video game for about 5 years.
