Prey for the Gods: Itís Like Shadow of the Colossus in the Snow

Prey for the Gods is obviously influenced by Shadow of the Colossus but there is a little more to this kickstarter game then fighting gigantic beings. Survival plays a big part and that includes surviving the weather and managing resources.

Apparently the world is on its last leg and you’re sent to a remote location to find out why there is an eternal winter and save the world from dying. Although vague (it’s still pretty early), I’m intrigued by the story. To save the world you have to take down giant beasts.

This portion of the game is very reminiscent of Shadow of the Colossus. Boss fights consist of taking down huge gargantuan monsters and some of the videos even show the character climbing on the giant’s back. Although similar the gameplay is apparently more along the lines of something like Dark Souls in that you have to find the strategy to defeat the beasts and that includes a lot of dodging, planning, and then moving in for the attack.

But fighting giant creatures isn’t the only thing to contend with in the world of Prey for the Gods. Weather plays a pretty big part. There is tons of snow everywhere. The depth can even effect your character as well. Not to mention there are storms that brew up and you have to actually find shelter or find yourself joining the corpses littered about who are previous failed attempts at saving the world. And if that’s not enough, you have to manage your inventory and defend yourself against ghostly enemies.

Not much else is known about the game but I think it could be really cool (no pun intended). It looks great already as you can see from the videos. Prey for the Gods is slated to come out in December 2017 on PC and the rest of consoles shortly after. No Matter Studios just recently reached their kickstarter goal on August 8th but you can still support the game on their website.

I think it’s safe to say that this successful kickstarter campaign may turn out to be a pretty good game. It looks interesting so far. I like the idea and it seems like they are putting a lot of passion into the game. We’ll see how the game progresses as it’s further developed.

Here’s a 10 min gameplay video IGN posted recently to get a taste of what the game has to offer:

What do you guys think? Does this look pretty good or do you think it’s too similar to Shadow of the Colossus?

As far as I'm concerned being similar to SotC is a really good thing :-)

Lol Why does the birdragon have tentacles?

I got a slight Journey/Ellie hunting scene/SotC bite vibe from the demo. The SotC parts looked a little more than just inspired by that game, more like a copy, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Nice. These sort of games need more attention. So glad The Last Guardian is coming out. The challenge component isn't my style, but if the control isn't cheap or anything like that this could be a success.
