Get a First Look at Darksiders 3
Finally! Thanks to the people over at IGN we’ve got our first look at Darksiders 3. Darksiders 1 and 2 were pretty great as far as action games go. And they had an interesting storyline as well. The story of Darksiders takes place in a post apocalyptic world where the human race has been completely wiped out and is now overrun by angels and demons who are at war. In the games you play as one of the four horsemen.
In Darksiders you played as War who was blamed for starting the apocalypse and ending the world as we know it. You are sentenced to death by the Charred Council which is a neutral governing group of beings. You convince The Charred Council to let you go back to earth to prove your innocence in destroying humankind. So, 100 years later, you return to the wasteland that is earth and find a way to prove that you didn’t start the apocalypse.
The gameplay is mostly action/hack and slash with some rpg elements. The fighting was smooth and solving puzzles was pretty satisfying. You gained more powers as you made your way through the game. All in all it did quite well when it was released in 2010.
Four years later in 2014 Darksiders 2 was released. You play as War’s brother, Death. During the 100 years that War is imprisoned you are in pursuit of clearing War's name. Again, Darksiders 2 has some great action and has a similar feel to the first one. However, one of the biggest differences is how much larger in scale it is.
Another major difference is the addition of more rpg elements to the gameplay. While Darksiders 1 could be compared to something like Zelda, Darksiders was more akin to something like Diablo. It even had a loot system with mounds of different armor and weapons you can equip or sell.
Both games were solid and made for a pretty good adventure. And the artwork has always been awesome. Because of that Darksiders 3 should be pretty good as well. Instead of being developed by Vigil Games, it’s going to be developed by Gunfire Games which includes members of the aforementioned Vigil. Gunfire Games also worked on the recently released remaster of Darksiders 2.
Darksiders 3 takes place at about the same time as the second game. You play as Fury who is on a quest to destroy the seven deadly sins. And frankly she looks like a badass. Check out the video below to see her in action.
As of right now, Darksiders 3 is scheduled for release in 2018. It looks very promising judging from the small teaser we now have. I’m looking forward to some more of the Darksiders brand of action/adventure and hopefully they can bring some new and interesting gameplay elements as well. IGN will be coming out with more information on Darksiders 3 this month.
What do you think of Darksiders? Is it a series you are excited for? Did you enjoy the first two games? Yay or nay on Darksiders 3?
