Bethesdaland E3 2017: Bethesda Conference Highlights
Late into the night Bethesda finally had their conference (sucks being in Eastern time sometimes) and overall it was a pretty solid presentation but there were no big surprises. We pretty much knew what was coming including the two secret locations on their map that was leaked earlier this week and there wasn’t a new IP either. On the plus side, everything they announced is coming out this year and that’s pretty awesome. Let’s check out what they announced.
Doom and Fallout VR
Both Doom and Fallout are getting a VR treatment this year. Doom is called Doom VFR and you play as a UAC security operative that instead of getting killed along with everyone else has their consciousness transferred to a “artificial intelligence matrix”. Of course it’s up to you to fight the denizens of hell and you have teleporting abilities to move around with. It’s coming out for both PSVR and Vive so if you happen to have a VR headset this could be fun.
Fallout 4 is also getting the VR treatment as well but in a different way. They are actually taking the whole game and making it so you can play it in VR. Which should be interesting. Unfortunately they only announced for the Vive so PSVR is out of luck for now but I expect that might change later on.
Elder Scrolls Online Morrowind
They took a moment to showcase the latest expansion of The Elder Scrolls Online. There wasn’t anything super new here but it was pretty cool seeing some more shots of it. If you’re into ESO this looks really good.
Creation Club was an interesting announcement. It’s basically a program for paid mods for Skyrim and Fallout. Whether this will work or not remains to be seen but basically all the mods through this program will be catered and approved by Bethesda. They are working with other companies as well as mod creators. Steam already tried this once and it failed so we’ll see if it works out for Bethesda or not.
Dishonored Death of the Outsider
Dishonored gets a new story addition in Death of the Outsider this year. It’s a standalone which means you don’t have to own Dishonored 2 which is pretty cool. You will be playing as characters from the game and while it’s not technically DLC you can expect about the same kind of DLC value. It’s going to be $30 when it comes out. If you’re into Dishonered this is pretty awesome news.
Evil Within 2 was one of the two supposed surprises that were leaked earlier this week but it didn’t stop the trailer from being pretty awesome. They didn’t show a lot of gameplay but the trailer was really well done and I have to admit that I’ve taken a much more serious interest in the series after watching it. So I guess I’ll be picking up a copy of the first game sometime soon.
And the other surprise that was “under construction” on their map was, of course, the new Wolfenstein. This one looks good as well. The trailer was full of humorous dialogue and great characters. It also takes place in America this time with a older and very battle worn BJ. Even if you aren’t into the series, the trailer was a delight to watch.
I think Bethesda had a pretty solid conference even if there wasn’t any surprises or new IPs and it was really short. The vibe of the conference was entertaining and the games looked really good. It’s gotten me excited for a couple games and that’s the point isn’t it?
What do you think? Are you excited for any of these announcements? Is there anything that you’re looking forward to? What did you think of the conference?
