Comet Crash returns...a spare time destroyer?!
Return of an award winning classic.
On August 8th we will finally see a Comet Crash sequel hitting the Ps4. Pelfast studios have decided to grace our PS4 console with Comet Crash 2: The Kronkoid Wars. Having little experience of this game, I decided to visit my local store; dust down my redundant PS3, and re-visit an award winning piece of software that had passed me by when it first hit the gaming scene.
What I found was annoying…..annoyingly addictive gameplay, mixed with fast-paced strategic control, with time-eating addictiveness thrown in for good measure! Having to think ahead whilst dealing with the current attacks takes a bit of time to get used to, but as I’ve said already, worth the learning curve and failed missions to stick with it! If, and I really should mean when, we get hands on with its next installment, Im hoping for more of the same, with obviously more impressive graphics, faster frame rates and slightly tweaked controls. Utilising the pad on the PS4 controller could hold a fascinating quandry as to what to put it to use for...will we be able to swipe for fast reaction movements, or will it allow us to quick-build a set defence?!
Of course I still have to talk about the multi-player (Battle mode), and the LAN gameplay, the crux of the game itself. Trying to build your defences, and keeping an eye on your opponent's tactics and positioning should make for frenetic gameplay, and a dash of frustration if you happen to end up on the receiving end of a whupping! And are you prepared for the relative fallout of relatives falling out (like my wordplay there?!) over destroyed defences, and ruined hopes and dreams?! Admit it...you didnt love em that much anyway...and they are going down!
Control is key: from quick access menus and selection controls, to making the overall feel easy to get to grips with, and easy to ‘master’. Defeating the Mega Boss and collecting the rewards known as “zoids” will allow supercharged weapon and production speed benefits, which ramp up the need for intuitive controls. Hands-on gameplay can't come soon enough!
Comet Crash 2, like its older brother, looks as though it's about to steal more of your time than you will have intended to give it! Having went back and tried the original, I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to give up a few things over the course of the next month if I get this; cos it's taking all my will power not to keep the PS3 permanently attached to my UHD tv to fire it up again! Which does mean I still get to go to the toilet, eat, and get more than 2 hrs sleep if I can resist, but then as it’s on the PS4 that plan will fail come August 8th! Oh dear...bye bye life!
