Sucker Punch Talks The Awesomeness That Is Second Son

Of all the currently confirmed PlayStation 4 exclusives, I'd have to say that inFamous: Second Son tops my most-wanted list.

We've seen some kick-ass gameplay; now it's time to listen to the designers talk about the hotly anticipated title.

In this new interview video, head guys at developer Sucker Punch tell us why Second Son is such an ambitious project. inFamous has always been about open-world domination via awesome super powers and for the most part, Sucker Punch is maintaining that focus for the sequel. Of course, it's gonna be bigger and (hopefully) better than ever before, and it'll take advantage of the PS4's prodigious capabilities.

It's too bad that we have to wait until February of next year to play it, but that's just another game to look forward to, right?

Man Sony is REALLLLLLY into their new controller. I think they need to talk software more because as cool as the controller might be gamers don't care all that much about it compared to the games.

But this was the developer talking about it and how it impacts their game. ;)

And who do you think told them to do that? It's no mistake that everyone tends to end up on the same message at roughly the same time, and right now the controller is the feature but I think it's a waste of energy.

Hopefully this time the game will fill up a single layer blu-ray disc.

Why? You want more cut-scenes and video clips? Cause that's what the extra data would be filled with, if so.

Yes, I love cut scenes and video clips.

Well it may also imply bigger and better worlds in terms of detail and complexity, especially for an open world game like this. Uncharted 3 isn't even open world but it already takes more than one layer one layer of a blu-ray disc. I would expect a game of next gen scale to fill up more and take advantage of dual layers rather than single.

Also, I hope it runs at 1080p/60fps, which I assume would require more data.

"Also, I hope it runs at 1080p/60fps, which I assume would require more data."

No, that has nothing to do with the amount of data on disc. Well, 1080p res textures etc does compared to current-gen 720p, but the amount of frames per second does not.

Yeah, I'm aware of that. I guess I could've worded it differently. I was going to just say 1080p, but I felt the need to mention 60fps alongside it, regardless of whether or not it has to do with data or not.

A 3D object doesn't take much room (not of the sizes we talk about here) and the additional data that comes with larger maps (the scripts, map layouts, directions) definitely does not take much space.

Uncharted takes much room cause it contains tons and tons of cut-scenes.

So if you want a game to take a lot of space, you in practise want a game with lots of video clips. That is simply put just how it is.

I'm no expert at this, but I believe the reason Uncharted takes up so much space is because it streams massive amounts of data from the disc - there are no load times, and no mandatory install. There's only 1h 30 min of cutscenes...

Maybe it's the uncompressed sound as well?

This is the game I'm waiting for. I haven't pre-ordered a ps4 because I'm waiting for Second Son. Infamous is easily one of my favorites series of all time and I'm hoping, begging, and praying their is a Second Son ps4 bundle and or a Second Son collectors edition similar to the Infamous 2 collector's edition which I have and love.

Come on special Infamous gear.

This game just looks so incredibly good. Personally I think it looks to be on an entirely different level than everything else we've seen for the PS4 so far - yes, that is including Killzone.

Everything is still being polished. We cant judge the trailers to be exactly what the final product is going to be. Yes im sure for E3 they made sure that for the videos and gameplay they were going through looked close to final product but with how much time is still left before the system comes out, a lot can happen in 4 months. Hell a lot can happen in just a week!
I think everything so far looks amazing. Im really paying attention to puddles, the ocean (AC), buildings, dust blowing, snow, ect. Next gen is gonna be a b.l.a.s.t

People ALWAYS say that about betas and trailers.

How often do the real games look better than the trailers?

Very valid point from Akuma there.

But one of the most impressive things about Infamous 3 is the animations. The animators working on this project are just ridiculously skilled. It just looks so fluid and incredibly detailed! Take the flame balls. They aren't just blobs flying across the screen but they bulge and sparkle and flow in the air, it's just... Fantastic.

It's like this open world game has been injected with a huge syringe of pure energy!

Particle effects look amazing, like the smoke and the fireballs.

Looks like they are building on the more 'cinematic' angle they started with Infamous 2 as well, with the camera angles and facial mo-cap and...guess who...Troy Baker...lol.

The controller implementation makes me think Sony are rekindling the six-axis idea...uh-oh. They say it gives you a more "direct" interaction, but that doesn't necessarily translate well into gameplay. When a game immerses you, you forget you're pressing buttons to do stuff anyway. So yeah, kinda gimmicky to me that feature, even if it sounds cool.

infamous: Second Son is one of two games that I am dead set on getting next year, along with Destiny.

I really don't know any other titles coming out next year that have been announced yet, so we'll see.

As far as for the two I mentioned though, I can't wait. :)

With their first 2 PS3 games doing well Sucker Punch is doing something right, nothing can/will go wrong.
