Killzone: Shadow Fall Pre-Orders Beating Forza 5, Ryse

It's understandably a very popular pre-order.

But did you know it's outpacing the biggest names on the Xbox One's launch list? According to a Cowen & Co. report, we get a peek at the pre-order standings for 2013. As if anyone is surprised, Call of Duty: Ghosts sits at the top.

But look at Killzone: Shadow Fall, the anticipated PS4 exclusive. It's tracking ahead of Forza 5, Ryse and Dead Rising 3 on the pre-order numbers list. The 2013 Cowen Video Game Odometer is based on an analysis of NPD sales data and Amazon.com best-seller results from recent years. Then games are given a score on a 100 point scale; the Killzone sequel scored a 30.3, significantly higher than Forza 5 (18.8), Dead Rising 3 (15.0) and Ryse (13.2). Still, Knack is only at 7.7 and DriveClub is sitting at 3.0, so Xbox One pre-orders are more popular overall.

We probably shouldn't forget that pre-ordering DriveClub seems silly to many. It'll be free to PlayStation Plus subscribers, and you'll need Plus to play online, anyway. As for Shadow Fall, it's undoubtedly the most anticipated PS4 exclusive for 2013.

Woah, I got confused there for a second where you wrote "Dead Island 3".

I'll be very interested to see if Ryse actually works out for Crytek, it's taking a lot of risks.

After initially getting excited about it, I think Ryse looks like garbage. Need to see more of it, of course, but it looks like the most blatant Gladiator setting and God of War gameplay rip-off hybrid imaginable. I like the idea of controlling a squad, but I just don't know. If I ever get an Xbox One in a year or two, maybe I'll pick it up on a steep discount.

Ryse looks like an idiot proof game for video gaming initiates. I believe it was originally designed exclusively for Kinect.

Oh cut him some slack, there's so many of these "Dead" named zombie games.

I guess it matches the console pre-order numbers quite well (for those of us who still think there's information in numbers ;) ). On all pre-order charts PS4 rages far above the Xbone.

This is a little surprising.

But just to add:

Most anticipated Launch PS4 title SO FAR. I can't wait for Gamescom, I hope Sony blow us away.

Killzone and Watchdogs are definitely my two launch games. Not the best launch lineup ever (now THAT would be an interesting debate question) but really quite solid. I'm definitely getting the impression Sony is not going to make the mistake they did with Vita and will actually have a steady stream of games coming out in 2014 from the get-go, too.
