Second Son Trailer: Who Knew Smoke Was So Darn Powerful?

It's one of the most anticipated PlayStation 4 exclusive titles on the horizon. It just looks like awesome fun, doesn't it?

In a new behind-the-scenes "Smoke & Mirrors" trailer, we get to check out how developer Sucker Punch produced the eye-popping special effects for inFamous: Second Son. Did you know that smoke is kinda necessary for the main character's powers...?

They explain how they created those effects utilizing the power of Sony's new console. The particle effects are unbelievably impressive, and I have a feeling that destruction will be downright glorious. Remember, the footage we've seen thus far has portrayed plenty of environmental destruction, far more than there ever has been in this franchise. This should be one continuous adrenaline rush fueled by a constantly impressive visual display.

It's just a little annoying that Second Son isn't a PS4 launch title. Gotta wait until next year, damnit.

Thanks, Zak!

For me this is the first must have title of the next-gen.

Clearly.

I think I may even look more forward to this one than I do with The Witcher 3. It looks *completely* stunning in every single way.

It's beautiful and fluid. Please let it be 60fps locked.

So uhm... i can't see no difference between this smoke and i.e. BF4 smoke. To be honest I wasn't impressed at all be the footage we have seen. All this destruction seem so... artificial. But there's still plenty of time untill the release, so hopefully it'll get more lifelike.

What would it have to do to be more lifelike?

Apparently you've never seen an explosion. As a born pyro let me just say, uh yeah, this is spot on.

Spot on not exactly but it definetly looks interesting. I just hope it's not as boring like the first one.

Looks pretty badass to me, and it sounds like it will have that extra layer of depth to the gameplay that I'm looking for in a next gen game too.

I just hope there's a skin for Cole's outfit.

I'm trying to compare this to the jump we saw going from the PS2 too PS3 gen. It's a little hard to tell. It's an obvious improvement. If this were a PS3 title we would all be blown away, admit it. But is it a significant jump? The hardware isn't as revolutionary as the Cell was, but it's so much more accessible.

I guess we'll find out for sure a couple of years down the road when everything is out and on our home TVs.

Got to remember these are the first batch of games, the first batch of PS3 games were basically HD PS2 games.

I recently took a break from my PS3, and have been back into it only this past month.

And I can confidently say, yes, it is a significant jump.

Honestly, the graphics in all my PS3 games are not impressive to me at all any more. I remember Battlefield 3 as an awesome looking FPS game which blew COD away, played it last night and it looked terrible to me!

The PS4 trailers have clearly tainted my eyes.

I'm definitely a minority here as I am not interested in this game what so ever. It looks exactly like the other Infamous games (which I enjoyed very much). Replacing the electricity for smoke with spruced up graphics is the only difference I see in this one. A lot of the moves are even the same. I just expected a more original game going into the next generation :(

Then you wanted a different game, not inFamous. The biggest trap some ongoing IPs have fallen into is attempting to redefine and restructure...when gamers became fans of the original titles for a reason.

Spuck - I read your comment a couple times and for the life of me, I can't understand how you are not interested in this game when you admitting enjoyed the others.

It's not like any of us have actually played the final game yet, so we don't know what Sucker Punch has in store for us!

I also am not too excited for this game. It looks good and I can see improvements in many areas, but it doesn't have that "must-have" tag many are saying. But this is just my opinion.

You do understand that there will be more powers than smoke right?

I am coming from the other side of the coin, I played the first inFamous, enjoyed it mildly, but not enough to warrant a purchase.

Second Son however, looks really awesome, and I am quite excited to get my hands on it at some point!

I never really enjoyed the kind of hero Cole was. So depressed about his abilities. Delsin on the other hand, is almost cocky about it, and I love that.

While you might say it's just "more of the same", I think this game now look like how they all should be from the beginning. The world just looks so much more *alive*, the animations so much more fluid, and the effects so much better.

Infamous always had that "large map fatigue" on the PS3. Now we got the power to really fuel an open world game, and this is probably the first open world game on the next gen that will give us a demo of this.

This game coming out in February is the only reason I'm not getting a PS4 at launch.

The wait for this game is going to be...difficult.

I think if it wasn't for this game, I probably could have waited a good year before picking up the PS4 since my PS3 still has plenty of life left in it. The more I see of Second Son though makes me stashing money away now for the coming "next generation".

shame this isent a launch title.
if theres one game that would really help sell the system its this!
cant wait to see what the other powers besides smoke are.
hope they have a few powers geared towards traversal.
one thing infamous 2 really missed, yea it had the tether but it had a pretty limited range and every time you use it you end up getting snagged on something and the connection breaks, so its pretty much useless!
