Whore Of The Orient Gameplay Emerges

It was recently confirmed that Team Bondi is still working on Whore of the Orient, which is now set for the next generation.

And now it seems Videogamer has gotten their hands on some leaked gameplay. The footage comes from a "trusted sources" and features a chase through crowded city streets, some hand-to-hand combat (with a karate style), and a bit of gunplay.

The Australian government gave the team $200,000 to assist with the project, but they still need a publisher. Whore of the Orient writer and director Brendan McNamara (L.A. Noire) says this game will boast "one of the great untold stories of the 20th century." Well, maybe it will, but we're hoping this footage is very early on in development...you may notice the dude who just stands out in the open five feet from you, shooting a handgun. And of course, it's not lookin' all that special, either, as the character detail is minimal.

But the game is a long ways off, and we have tremendous faith in the team that brought us L.A. Noire.

Looks like it has promise. Bondi still probably needs help making a decent hand to hand combat system though.

As much as we all love whores they might have to change that name to get a publisher too.

Not really sure why they even bother to show this, looks very rough and stale...

And seriously, they allowed that moron Brendan McNamara back into the mix??

This looks kinda generic, but I suppose that, considering that this would likely be a vertical slice shown in an attempt to interest publishers. We all know that they wouldn't be likely to latch onto the more original ideas that the game presents...
That's what I hope anyway.
In either case, still picking it up when and if it comes out. It's a local AAA production... 'nuff said.

I don't have anything against whores, but this doesn't look promising. I thought LA Noire was a good game, so I'm holding out judgement until the game progresses further.

sad the team has gone through the troubles they have, especially because they have so much talent and ambition.
its nice to see a studio for a change looking to times and stories which have been left untold, instead of last years overdone concept which has plagued this industry.
just goes to show how unfair and fickle this industry is.
uniqueness and ambition gets you, well, team bondi.
churning out last years sequel year after year after year, gets you, well, infinity ward.
sigh.

I like the name. If it was a movie name, no one would have a problem and they'd probably label it a "mature" name for a "mature" movie.

Otherwise, it's in early stages of development, if you see it from that POV (hehe) then it's pretty good. I think if they get a good publisher, this could end up a pretty good game. I have trust in Team Bondi.
