Updated Pre-Order Game Charts For US: Time To Discuss

Oh, there are all sorts of potential discussion topics.

Check out the updated pre-order charts for the US region. There's plenty of intrigue goin' on there, huh?

First: Grand Theft Auto V for both the PS3 and Xbox 360 tops the list by a long shot. There are more pre-orders for the 360 version but that's to be expected, as there are many more 360 owners in the US. However, the gap isn't big enough to represent the 360/PS3 user base gap in this country, so I think the implication is that a slightly higher percentage of PS3 owners have pre-ordered GTAV.

Second: For all those who think PlayStation fans are wrong to say Xbox 360 fans tend to prefer shooters more often, look at that chart. Both Call of Duty: Ghosts and Battlefield 4 for the 360 are out-pre-ordering their PS3 counterparts by an almost exact 2:1 ratio. That's double, yes? And by the way, they're the two most pre-ordered titles for the 360 (next to GTAV), while it's interesting to note that Tales of Xillia, an anticipated JRPG, is the most pre-ordered PS3 game next to GTAV. No difference in gaming tastes, huh? That has never been true.

Third: What's interesting about the latter is how that may translate to the new generation. It could just be that the PS4 is more popular right now, or it could be that shooter fans are spilling over and will (eventually) blanket both PlayStation and Xbox platforms equally. The PS4 iteration of Ghosts is actually ahead of the Xbox One version on the pre-order chart, and by a significant amount. It's an even bigger gap for Battlefield 4. Perhaps another explanation is in order- A higher percentage of PlayStation fans are simply more avid, more hardcore gamers, are are planning to jump into the new generation sooner. Hence, higher pre-order numbers.

Fourth: Watch Dogs is the most pre-ordered next-gen title. But only the PS4 version; it seems the Xbox One version is nowhere to be found. As we haven't heard anything about the PS4 version being superior in some way, nor has Ubisoft promoted the game more heavily for the PlayStation side, it's an interesting result. Maybe the Xbox followers are still just too absorbed with shooters...or again, maybe a lot more gamers are on PlayStation's bandwagon heading into the new generation. That'd be pretty impressive, too, especially considering that the US has been Xbox territory for years. Through the entire current era, in fact.

Fifth: Why is Pokemon still around?

Very interesting. As of late it kind felt like the Xbone was gaining a ton of momentum. It's gonna be really interesting to see what happens.

Happy to be one of those Xillia members, my copy is coming tomorrow!

I'm also actually excited to analyze the early numbers for the new consoles and write up lots of fun articles about them for yall.

Man, you have your own hater club and you didn't even say anything stupid? That's when you know you're doing something right.

I do say stupid things sometimes because I'm a zealous gamer so yeah I have a hater club, but they can't even begin to dull my shine when they hate from their shadows and I speak in the light of day. :)

LMAO at the pokemon shot. I watched the show up until the point they started jumping from island to island, but never got into the card game or video games at all.

Watch Dogs is definitely on my radar. GTAV should have launched on the PS4/Xboxone. Would have made the PS4 more useful when I get it this fall.

I know Ben. PS3 fans are SO satisfied with Killzone and Resistence many just don't have time for CoD and BF. Right?
=p

Sure but you'd think the 15 year olds of today would have something else by now.

This stuff I love Ben. Analyzing numbers is fascinating. And yes, it's very interesting, the points you make here in relation to our earlier discussions. I'm mature enough to admit that. ;)

But wasn't it someone who once said that "those who believe in numbers deserves to be mislead" or something along those lines? :p

In regards to the numbers related to the Xbone/PS4 I believe it is an indication of a dramatical amount of gamers planning on shifting side now. That may also partially explain the numbers for the X360 actually, cause those who sit on that machine might be thinking "well I'll have this machine for a while anyways, so might just as well order games for it".
It's a theory, at least.

I'm pretty sure the entire article is dealing with what I said- explaining the numbers and not taking them at face value without an understanding of other influences and factors. :)

Better question would be, why did pokemon come out in the first place?

I love Tales of Xillia! It's such a fantastic game it deserves all the sales it gets. If anyone here is on the fence about purchasing it, don't be. It's more than worth the price of admission. The back end of this generation is turning out good for PS3 JRPG fans, even though we had to wait till the end. Better late than never I guess.

Yeah when you tally them up we aren't doing too bad, it's just that we lost the old fighting mechanic for games that weren't already action (like Tales and Ocean) and we lost a few good franchises. Coulda been worse though.

I miss Suikoden and Grandia.

It is always nice to see a RPG up that high on the charts let alone a jRPG! As far as the next gen games go though, none of those numbers mean anything at the moment. I have talked about the next gen systems with at least 50 different members in my clan and most of them haven't even saved up enough money for the system yet, so those numbers do not indicate anything concrete as of yet.

Interesting... enough that I do not bother with pre-order sales charts or post sales. Means nothing to me. Granted I would like certain games to be successful enough on the platform of my choice, wonder what that is, so that if it is a good game they will follow with a sequel if deserved.

If I was to look at sales charts I would rather look at world numbers, if accurate. US numbers do not tell me much other than what I already know, following the US gamer stereotype. Again though, numbers do not say much to me.

From what I heard on the net most FPS MP players are more excited about the new Battlefield iterate over the CoD one. But the numbers do not reflect that.

Since I do not play those games no matter.

Focus I would think these days is on the new consoles and the sales there for games.

Keep playing!
(now back to TRYING to actually play GTAIV without falling asleep)

They tend to tell me if I should expect sequels or localizations or if I will stew in my own filth waiting for another entry.

I can't for the life of me understand why people still play pokemon, but meh if it makes you happy it makes you happy.

It just seems like they are releasing the same game every year, I would argue its as bad if not worse than what CoD does every year, actually yeah it is worse.
