Concerning The PlayStation 4, How Much Has Sony Held Back?

We've seen the PlayStation 4 fully unveiled. We have most, if not all, the relevant architectural and hardware statistics. We've seen most of the launch lineup, or so we assume.

But Sony has often hinted that they're not telling us everything, and that they've still got a few surprises up their sleeve. The launch date is obviously one of them, but what else might we learn during the PlayStation conference tomorrow at Gamescom? And what else might they reveal for the PS4 at the Tokyo Game Show next month? Don't forget that we've got one more major show this year, and it takes place on Sony's home soil. They might be saving a special announcement for that.

So, what do you think we'll see and hear? Do you believe that Sony has a lot more to reveal about their new console? Maybe they still have to tell us about more launch titles, several of which might just rock our world. Or maybe there's some new system feature we haven't heard about yet. Is there a possibility of multiple models? And if so, will we see one that has a super big hard drive, like a 1TB or something? And what about the 2014 lineup? It's already starting to become heavily populated with anticipated titles, but maybe more PS4 exclusives are going to be set in stone.

Well, no matter what, we can't wait for that release date!

I think they have a lot more to unveil if not at Gamescom, probably at a different event.

maybe they'll confirm the $200 PS3 along with a new $200 Vita or something. Something with better battery life and slimmer, lighter, profile.

As for PS4, maybe they'll unveil a trailer of a big IP, something like GoW or Uncharted.

They gotta do something because MS is really promoting their exclusive lineup of software ;)

The Vita already has a slim and light profile.

If Sony makes it any smaller, you'll lose it out of your pocket, and never know it happened.

All that the Vita needs is a super long-life battery, and it'll be perfect.

No.... just no.

No more GoW or Uncharted.

Give them a rest for a bit.

How about, The Last Guardian. Or a brand new IP.

Never say no to Uncharted! how can anyone be sick of it? they've only released 3 games over the last 7 years, and 3 absolutely amazing games at that.

GDC: I doubt much news will come out.

1. We havent seen much demonstrations with the PS4 camera. They might bring out a new Eyepet for PS4. Eyepet originated from Europe, so it's highly probable it'll be shown.

2. Little Big Planet 3 is a given.

3. Showcase: Drive club, Beyond 2 Souls, Gran Turismo 6.

Actually LBP3 is not likely.

Media Molecule have spoken out that they want to move away from LBP for the time being, and are working on another brand new IP apparently.

just because MM is not working on it does not mean it wont happen.
$onys farmed out tons of their franchises to outside developers before.
theres been tons of rumors for years that sumo digital is working on LBP 3.
though im not so sure thats a good idea, every time they do that it ends up, well, resistance burning skies....... nuf said!

Last Guardian at TGS and Uncharted 4 teaser at Gamescom. Probably some neat stuff about the PSN too, a more solid claim about the Gaikai capabilities instead of what it "might" enable later on. Hopefully that we don't have to rebuy PS1 and PS2 classics, maybe a PS2 emulator.

Whatever the devil Santa Monica is doing? (Probably not).

That'll be the day, when Sony doesn't make every other territory have to re-buy their once again very limited catalog of games because they don't want to implement what awesome program Japan gets to have towards getting their videogames converted or whatever you want to call it.

I don't think that Sony has even come close to playing all of their cards yet.

Tokyo Game Show is still coming, and is a big showing for Sony, even though the last few TGSs have been a little lackluster. :(

I think we are just getting into the good stuff here at Gamescom, and we will be riding high on the PS4 Express all the way to launch.

Can't quite say the same for Microsoft, from what I hear they only have one "major exclusive" to reveal at Gamescom, and after that, the only logical conclusion is that their "hype train" will be derailing, since they never go to TGS.

And Microsoft wonders why the Japanese don't give a damn about them. Frackin' idiots is what those folks at Microsoft are. :)

I think we'll see something from Guerrilla, along with Media Molecule, both new IPs. LBP 3 could be unveiled though with a different developer.

With a movie in the works, might we see Heavenly Sword 2. Maybe we'll see Agent.

I'd like to see some 3rd party exclusives.

At TGS The Last Guardian, maybe some exclusive from Japanese devs/publishers.

Uncharted 4, I'd say would be unveiled at Spike's VGAs.

Didn't the dev responsible for Heavenly Sword say that they didn't want to make a sequel?

With LBP3, Media Molecule doesn't want to do it, so it would have to be another dev like you said.

Sony owns the IP, I believe, so Ninja Theory doesn't have to do it. Sony can have an internal studio do it, or outsource it.

Ninja Theory had a three-game arc planned for Heavenly Sword, but they busted up with Sony. Then the internal Cambridge studio began work on a sequel, which got shelved before the team got rebranded as a part of Guerilla. I hope that it has been revitalised though, that'd be awesome.

With the Heavenly Sword CG Movie coming I think it's possible. I bet Ninja Theory regrets the breakups since HS sold more than Enslaved and DmC combined.

Personally, I would like to see the talented developers doing new things, rather than relying on old tricks for the start of next-gen. Go back to the AAA franchises a bit later on.

I feel like games like GoW and Uncharted have been done so many times now. They are both top quality developers, the kind of people who should be out their building new and exciting IP's.

I don't see Sony announcing any new hardware changes or versions for PS4 just yet, unless it's something new that they've come up with post-E3. A model with better hardware at a higher price point is something they'll want to sell. It wouldn't make sense to conceal that until most people who are going to have already preordered.

A Vita bundle as has been rumored lately is possible, but it won't be launching now. Again, too many people have already preordered. Unless it plans to make a separate Vita console comparable in price (think of the current launch bundles, where the separate components together cost the same as the bundle), it wouldn't be fair to Sony's earliest adopters.

allot, i hope!
we need to see a few new launch titles tomorrow, especially hopefully a new IP or two.
im sorry but KZ another mindless shooter which we have a gazillion of, a game you could swear came from facebook, and knack while reminding me of my favorite series crash bandicoot, just aint gonna cut it!
its sad, the ONLY ps4 exclusive im half excited for is second son, a game which wont be releasing till 5+ months after the ps4 does!

i really hope we see some of the OS tomorrow too.
one thing $ony made a mistake on, they really have not shown off the system specific features and thats something people will want to see before they invest in it.
hopefully will see more on that soon, if not at gamescom.

Specs, launch titles, price, these we know and we're bound to find out dates at Gamescom, but I don't know what Sony could be holding back. Maybe that Gaikai is going to mean that the PS4 is capable of the same Cloud computing that the XBO is (though I'm certain that is the case anyway, the only difference being that Sony is going to ask developers and publishers to handle the specific cloud functions, rather than relying on Sony's cloud).
Maybe they'll also announce hardware based B/C for PS2 games (I can dream right?)
I don't know. I think that Sony is going to focus on what matters most to gamers: the games. I predict we'll see more of QD's PS4 project, though still nothing concrete until after Beyond comes out. Whatever Media Molecule is working on, and perhaps even a collaborative LBP3 with Sumo Digital, is where the rumours are saying. I'd probably expect a big Move game to be announced, maybe the revival of Eight Days?
Europe exclusive features, I have no idea, really.

I don't think that we'll see the next project from Naughty Dog until the Spike VGAs, and it'll be set for a release sometime next year.

Yes there will be different models of the ps4, the first 4 models will be 500gb and will have a CD, DVD and Blu-Ray player. After that the later models will not have CD and DvD players (ROM).
You can check the info from this site;
www.edepot.com/playstation4.html

This is the place I go to, to find out about new, tech (console) information.
