Pitchford: "More Power Is Always Better"

Nobody is willing to be all that specific about the next generation, even if they freely admit they're looking to the future with great interest.

The latest developer to talk about the upcoming generation of hardware is Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford, who spoke to Gamasutra about "moving forward" in regards to both power and invention.

"More power is always better. There's always things we can do that we cannot do today that we can do with more power. So, that's always true.

Different people make different stabs. Some of these stabs folks make become standards. Most of the time they're temporary gimmicks. I don’t like getting behind gimmicks. I tend to like the things that feel like they can become standards, or steps towards standards."

In reference to the motion control craze of the current generation, Pitchford agrees that in the distant future, full-body motion control may become the norm. But he also says there are quite a few steps between now and the holodek and for the time being, he "doesn't really care." In this way, we have to agree- There are more important things to focus on, in our opinion.

Face Capture will be great. When your making a character like in Dragon Age, will it be great if you can use your own face, take a photo then edit, hehe,

Gotta admit it's pretty fun to use the character creators this gen to quite literally put myself into the games.

Randy, keep up the good work. I expect you guys to let Borderlands rest a minute now though and shock the world next generation with the greatest action game ever created: Duke Nukem Redux.

Power is better if it's utilised properly, and I really feel that this gen's power has, for the most part, not been used. We could have seen some real gameplay changes and revolutionary ideas, y'know. I mean, Heavy Rain is great and environmental interaction is usually good but it just isn't enough. I really hope that cutscenes can be more fully integrated into gameplay in the next gen. That, I think, is the biggest step and not through QTEs, either.

id rather see them do a new duke nukem game, or even brothers in arms furious four before they release a new borderlands!
would be awesome on a next gen system, but they need to focus on other franchises first.
oh and hopefully colonial marines ends up being the aliens movie we always wanted, and hopefully that will mean more aliens games and even movies.
