Pitchford: "More Power Is Always Better"
Nobody is willing to be all that specific about the next generation, even if they freely admit they're looking to the future with great interest.
The latest developer to talk about the upcoming generation of hardware is Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford, who spoke to Gamasutra about "moving forward" in regards to both power and invention.
"More power is always better. There's always things we can do that we cannot do today that we can do with more power. So, that's always true.
Different people make different stabs. Some of these stabs folks make become standards. Most of the time they're temporary gimmicks. I don’t like getting behind gimmicks. I tend to like the things that feel like they can become standards, or steps towards standards."
In reference to the motion control craze of the current generation, Pitchford agrees that in the distant future, full-body motion control may become the norm. But he also says there are quite a few steps between now and the holodek and for the time being, he "doesn't really care." In this way, we have to agree- There are more important things to focus on, in our opinion.
