GameStop Managers Get A PS4 And 7 Games At Launch

Well, that's certainly nice of Sony, don't you think?

After the GameStop Expo in Las Vegas, the company confirmed to Joystiq that all store managers will receive a PlayStation 4 and seven games upon the launch of Sony's new next-generation console.

The games they will receive are: Killzone: Shadow Fall, NBA 2K14, Madden NFL 25, Need for Speed: Rivals, Battlefield 4, FIFA 14 and the PS3 exclusive title, Beyond: Two Souls. Not all games listed here will be given as physical copies; some may be delivered via digital voucher, but it's still pretty damn cool. We've also heard that GameStop managers will get an Xbox One and really, that's quite the ridiculous haul. Guess they won't need a holiday bonus!

Now I want to go back to work at GameStop. ...okay, not really.

What would you do with a PS4 and Beyond: Two Souls?

This is actually pretty stupid, Gamestop will still be paid to push Microsoft merchandise over Sony and that will filter down to the managers. Trying to influence their opinion this way isn't going to help anybody.

Does anyone find this unfair? A manager can certainly purchase an Xbox One and a Ps4 themselves along with 7 games with the money they make. This should be given to the less fortunate. Rich get richer, poor get poorer. Doesn't directly apply, but applies.

Does a manager really make that much at these places?

Gamestop works their managers like crazy, while cheaping out on the floor staff. For all the crap that Gamestop makes their managers go through, and all the crap they do to stiff them on bonuses... Damn straight they deserve the ever living crap out of this deal...

And as soon as the manager of the store I work at gets back, I'mma congratulate his ass the second I see him! :D

Seems strange to me. The money for those consoles and games can go to actual marketing instead and actually have the potential to increase sales rather than freebies.

Surely once the trade ins start anyways, the managers can borrow a copy and play it if they wish.

I'd say this is damn fair... Gamestop works the ever loving shit out of their managers... They deserve this just for the crap they get shoveled onto their work load! I should know! I work there...

When our store manager gets his butt back from Vegas, I'm gonna congratulate him!

I just read in N4G that "by coincidence" they'll be getting Xbox Ones as well, Whoa, what are the chances?

Microsoft seriously needs to stop trying to copy everything Sony does... It's getting embarrassing...

this whole thing is because M$ has been trying to Diminish the PS4 remember E3
M$ Paid spike tv off so Sony wouldn't be Aired lets not forget M$ was paying Devs off to not show PS4 games and M$ also tried Paying gamestop off to not advertise the PS4 which gamestop declined so this is just a reward to gamestop

@LimitedVertigo: A store manager usually nets a salary, ranges from $35-$45k+ depending on the store, ie. fast food, grocery store, gamestop, etc.

This was unexpected...but that's business, and part of business is marketing your brand for potential/future gain. Did not think Sony would attempt this strategy, but why not hand out your product to the very people who sell it, specially a place where the majority shop for games. Feels good to be a store manager right about now.

I agree with WorldEndsWithMe, Beyond: Two Souls is a PS3 exclusive. What if they don't have a PS3?

Lunar_Miyuki has a point. Microsoft is known for, paying for profit. One reason I stopped playing my Xbox 360 was for lack of exclusive content. Most titles were bought as timed-exclusives from Microsoft and eventually released later (after said time) on the PS3. One can only play so much Halo, Gears, or Forza before you seek other entertainment. Oh, and don't forget Fable.

Unless they traded them in, Sony gave PS3s and Vitas to most Gamestop managers and assistant managers (I bought both of mine when I worked there though), so most of them will have the hardware to play it on. It's definitely a good idea to put the product into the hands of the people who will be selling the games/systems since they'll get hands on time with it. Also, most of the managers I know "shared the wealth" giving games and freebies they didn't want or didn't have the system for to their assistants or other employees.

Also, richfiles is right. There are definitely times when managers work 60+ hours to get paid for 40 because they are salary (I'm sure it's like this in a lot of places). It's one of the reasons I got out of there, and I know they are dealing with even more crap now. So, yes, I feel they deserve the unexpected gift and hope it helps net more PS4 and game sales. I know that actually having experience with the products being sold helped me help a lot of customers and sell a lot of PS2 and PS3 stuff.

There seems to be a lot of misconceptions here. GS managers dont make out that well, they are just retail store managers who put up with a lot of crap from customers. They also dont get holiday bonuses. They honestly deserve more.
Now, my manager doesn't even want his ps4 so what he will probably be doing is recieving it and trading it in. Noooow the unfair parts come out, I feel like he should be sharing that with at least the asst manager. Buuut that his personal choice.
