Gearbox Will Deliver Two New IPs For Next-Gen Consoles

They produced one of the best new IPs of the current generation. Who's betting they can do it again in the near future? I've got faith.

Gearbox Software, the developer that brought you the esteemed Borderlands titles, has revealed that they've got a couple new IPs in the works for next-gen consoles. Studio boss Randy Pitchford said as much during a PAX Prime panel.

He also got people laughing by asking- "Should we announce Borderlands 3?" We're all assuming that series will continue, but what of these new IPs? One of them may be Brothers in Arms: Furious Four, which isn't technically a brand new IP, but Gearbox has been busy remaking the entire game from scratch (or so we've heard). But if that project isn't included in this announcement, we can expect even more goodness from the Borderlands boys.

Personally, I'd like them to try their hand at something that isn't a shooter. Stretch your wings a bit, Gearbox!

I dont care what they do as long as Borderlands is a supported franchise. They have the talent to create original ideas so Im all for new ip's from them. Just dont forget about Borderlands. By his joke, I dont see that happening.

I just want an actual Duke Nukem game before any new IPs.

They announced a new Homeworld game.

Homeworld:Shipbreaker.

Which is actually a rebranded game.

The story is: Some of the people who created Homeworld left Relic and started up their own studio Blackbird Interactive, to work on a spiritual successor to Homeworld. This game was Hardware: Shipbreaker. Ever since Gearbox bought the rights to HW, they have been working with Blackbird on giving them the chance to turn this spiritual successor into a full blown HW entry.

I hope it is good. HW is the single best space-RTS game ever created. The gameplay mechanics were exceptionally grounded. The story was amazing. The graphics were above par at their time, they even still stand up well today, I can't wait for HW HD.

"Personally, I'd like them to try their hand at something that isn't a shooter" - I totally agree with this. They have so intensively nailed it with their Borderlands franchise, now let's see if they can come up with another interesting hybrid.

funny enough i got to speak to randy at PAX last month trying to get him to spill some details on his teams first next gen game.
all he would say was it will be something very different to what his studios known for, and also something no one has really done before.
coming from anyone else id be both excited and intrigued.
but coming from this two faced mongrel, well.........
this IS the guy who spouted so much humility and excitement about how privileged his team is to be given the aliens, and duke nukem franchises.
and we all know how those turned out...........

After DNF and Aliens, I'm not holding my breath for this.
I know they didn't develope those 2 games, but they should know what's crap and what's not.

In the eyes of the younger gamers, Duke Nukem and Aliens have been defiled.......

But the thing is, like you said they didn't develop those games, they had both been in development hell for a long time. Without Gearbox they probably wouldn't have seen the light of day.

After spending 10 years in development, sometimes you just have to ship your game.

yeah see if they can make an epic RPG(skyrim type thing not a dragon agetype thing personal preferance) or character/action game i know RPG is more likely i know i am streching my luck with character/action aka platformers i just think that besides rachet and clank and maybe sly people just don't want to touch that type of game which is sad for me as i love those type of games very much. i know that it's a market relevance and sales thing i smart enough to relise that but we are getting lots of action/adventure(/stealth) gudness so i a happy with that.

happy gaming =)
