Killzone: Shadow Fall Multiplayer Details

While we expect the campaign of Killzone: Shadow Fall to be exemplary, most shooter fans are hoping for excellent multiplayer action.

And now that we've got some fresh details, those fans have a better idea of what to expect. Developer Guerrilla Games has released a ton of new multiplayer information at the official Killzone website.

No fewer than 22 weapons will be available right off the bat, and there will be 19 weapon attachments as well. Guerrilla has sworn to continue to support Shadow Fall in the multiplayer department, so you can expect more updates and content after the anticipated title launches alongside the PlayStation 4 on November 15 (November 29 in Europe). As a very nice bonus, DLC maps will be released for free "to prevent the player base from becoming fractured."

There are plenty of interesting multiplayer tidbits: The player mechanics available in the campaign will be included in the multiplayer action, and that includes the snap-in cover system. The melee system has been expanded with drop-down melees, too. There will be three distinct classes and a dozen unique special abilities in multiplayer, and each of the classes can be enhanced with two more special skills. Then there's custom warzones with "supercharged customization features" and excellent Combat Honors to consider. It's good to be rewarded!

This should be the PS4's defining title at launch, so new owners will definitely want to give it a try.

Killzone 2 is among my favorite mp experiences behind Resistance: Fall of Man, this generation. KZ3 was good but it definitely lacked the strategy that KZ2 required. It felt like a mish mash of run n' gun game modes. So heres hoping that this game rocks. It sounds great based off this information.

Cant wait til' November 15.

I couldn't compete in KZ2. I loved the feel of the game in the single player but once I moved over to MP, I sucked hardcore. Haha I was much better at KZ3.

Yeah KZ3 was definitely more user friendly (no offense ;)). Guerilla definitely went with a more streamlined approach. I still really enjoyed it, no matter what. Just missed that weighted feeling, and more intricate gameplay.

I was decent at KZ2, I was in the top 100 for about 6 months, then I stopped playing it for some reason, only to go back to it once in awhile after that. But Im with you, I really enjoyed the feel of KZ2. Super realistic approach that worked very well.

MP was by far the best in KZ2. That "weighed down" feeling was second to none IMO, but too many COD players or the devs them self did not like it in the end. So COD + K2 = K3. Dont get me wrong, K3 was STILL fun, I cant get over K2.

*Sidenote* Im curious as to how many folks got the trophies for being the top 3 ranked online!? Number 1 here baby!!!

I dont recall getting that trophy. Id look if it didnt take 5 years to load my trophy information. I havnt looked at my trophy list in like 2 years because it takes forever to load.

Anyways it was the idea of reaching the CoD audience I think that prompted the change to the more streamlined approach in KZ3.

Didn't you have to be rank #4 to be in the top one percent? I had only two of them. Rank number one and rank number two.

The trophies were for top 1%,3%,7%,10% of the weekly leaderboard. Which ends every Sunday.

KZ2 came out back when my internet had a data cap at 2GB per month, after that my speed was shaped to a pathetic 56kbps.

I spent a whole week grinding at this, and was well into the top 1% (like top 0.3%), and THEN on Saturday morning I reached my data cap. Which meant I couldn't play KZ2 online for the rest of the month.

When I eventually got back online, in the 36 hours remaining of the weekly leaderboard, I had slipped down into only the top 3%. I was shattered :( safe to say, I have never attempted this again since then.

Okay thats right It was done by percentage. I do have those trophies then as I was in the top 100 frequently breaking top 25. For awhile actually.

Akuma - thats terrible you won the battle but lost the war to your internet cap. sorry man!

Edit: I didnt realise this many people here at PSXE dominated the leaderboards in KZ2. Should have been a clan; maybe there was and I wasnt invited ;). Anyways thats pretty cool.

@bigrailer
I'm pretty sure there was a PSXE clan! I swear World or Nighthawk made it, but I don't remember if I joined. You may have not been invited sorry ;) or my memory is just going through false reconstruction.

I was in the 1% in the 2nd month of playing because I only got a few days in the 1st (got 3% there grrr).

One time my game save got corrupted because the PS3 froze and could only turn it off, MID-SAVE! - and I was near halfway through Elite. What fortune. Luckily it only affected single player and the KZ2 online player profile records but not actual stats that are forever in their servers. This meant I had to play through it again on hard to unlock Elite and play that again.

I'm happy to say I got through that and the Plat was very rewarding.

Within the last couple weeks I've seen places like Fred Meyers and Walmart with active PS4 pre-orders. Maybe try them.

To me nothing will ever top the atmosphere and feel of Killzone 2, but very very glad to see that the secondary fire is back.

KZ2 was grand moment. Marked the franchises' first step into next gen after the poorly received original. I remember drooling over KZ1 back in the day and replayed its demo umpteenth times.

Definitely grabbing this! Been a KZ fan since the first on on PS2.

"As a very nice bonus, DLC maps will be released for free "to prevent the player base from becoming fractured."

I love this setup. New maps for everyone instead of the select who purchase it play by themselves and the rest to themselves. I understand DLC cost money, but I think this is a GREAT strategy for the next gen FPS on PS4.

This is how it should be. It keeps all the pkayers, playing together. I totally understand charging for it though.

I be thinkin it's a good idea over by there to be not charging for the maps. Not because we all should get free stuff all day but like they say it can fracture the people.

I am wondering if the multiplayer will be as visually stunning as the single.

Actually looking forward to this since I'm enjoying KZ:Mercenary so much.

I don't need to state again that I, for the most part, solely play offline single player games but I just did.

Not too many people are going to be playing this when Bf4, COD, and oh yeah, DESTINY will be out.

End of line.

Free DLC maps are a no brainer to me. Like they said and like they said for Starhawk, it splits the community.

Maps were always free in PC games, either made by the devs or the community made them and the devs then made them official maps.

I'm glad that I see this happening on the console now. CoD just experimented with charging for map packs and sadly it worked for them and I'm hoping that this gen we will see a return to free maps, with DLC for the multiplayer coming as something else, cosmetics maybe I dunno.

Otherwise I'm looking forward to this I only hope that this game plays more like KZ2 than KZ3, it seems most people here felt the difference in the gameplay. KZ2 was totally unique in how it felt, KZ3 while still a little weighty was no where near KZ2 and felt more like BF3 to me or a mix between CoD and KZ2 and BF3.

Hey, I watched the game today for the multiplayer. Good grief the game is much faster than the normally slow KZ games. It looks great. Still though I can only play one FPS at a time, and the BF series will always be first for me over KZ.

Killzone is really a great series. I'm more excited for this game because of killzone mercenary on the Vita, and that is truly a very well done beta.:-)
