What If Kojima Is Saving Project Ogre For The PS4's Launch?

Okay, so we're all aware of Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes now, which Hideo Kojima confirmed was not Project Ogre, the master's other project that remains a mystery.

So could Project Ogre or perhaps Metal Gear Solid 5 end up being a launch title for the PlayStation 4? The new machine will need all the software it can get at launch, and let's not forget something important: Sony delayed the US launch of the Vita so they could ensure there would be plenty of available games. And the Vita's release saw the most number of launch games in PlayStation history.

In short, it seems obvious that Sony has learned that new hardware requires appealing software right out of the gate. Plus, we know Kojima, the quintessential perfectionist, requires a fair amount of time to complete his projects. Therefore, it's only logical to assume that at least one of his unannounced titles is being prepped for the next generation of hardware. Put it all together, and it's not out of the realm of possibility to see something like MGS5 when the PS4 hits store shelves, or maybe it'll be that Project Ogre thing...whatever it is.

That will make the PS4 more interesting in the eyes of consumers, now wouldn't it? Hell yeah.

Depends on what Ogre actually is, Kojima is well known and respected but if the new game is the huge risk he says then there's always the chance it will get overlooked by the next generation of crazed mainstream loving gamers. I would love it if it were an RPG.

I just assume any MGS5 effort is going to be years away and thus has no chance at being a "launch" title.

If MGS5 were the only game available for the PS4, I'd still buy one.

I would certainly buy a PS4 at launch for a Kojima game same goes for Rockstar because those are the only two I completly trust. Don't forget ZOE3.

Obviously, I don't really know but I'd think probably not. Reason being, I think MGS5 will be marketable as something bigger than the early interested install base of PS4. I think MGS4 sold well over 4-5 million units when it launched, with MGS2 selling something over 7 million during PS2's early years, if I remember right. These are numbers that are real hard to hit from launch titles. Granted, MGS can't be considered at the same level or beneath Resistance FoM, SSX, TTT, as it's something higher caliber than any of those listed. I think Konami knows this and wouldn't want to set the ceiling cap quite so low, knowing very well their IP doesn't need early adopter buzz to cash in on hype. Now if this was Sony's IP, maybe I'd think different. It's the parent providers job to fork over the big bucks to really drive momentum during the launch window of a new platform. I think Sony will be the one who will bring us strong existing IP's earliest. But I also see this trans-generational gap as a reset period for publishers. I suspect each big dog will cast their line in with a potential cash cow franchise, hoping to grow it big as the next-gen progresses, much like, say, Assassin's Creed and Mass Effect etc.

Anyhow, I suppose anythings possible, and maybe Sony knows MGS is worth a ton to the Playstation brand, and some people do think MGS4's exclusivity on PS3 may have saved the PS3 from an early demise, or ugly consequences for Sony.

My brainjacking capabilities tell me that MGS Ground Zeroes could be a foothold with which to grab 360 owners attention and MGS5 will be the exclusive to bring them over to Playstation hardware next gen.

Ya never know what's being discussed over sake between Playstation-loving execs.

I just don't see Konami wanting to shift any landscapes through bait and switch tactics. Really, it's clear Konami is interested in growing the Metal Gear framework without brand boundaries. I think "Metal Gear" will become a broad franchise of offerings within the next 10 years. That is, everything from Revengeance to Ground Zeroes to Project Ogre all suggest to me an agenda to strengthen the value of Metal Gear and reach out to as many as will take interest. It's pretty obvious the FOX Engine has been engineered to accomadate any ecosystem, between hardware bases. One way or another I think Konami, like most publishers insist these days, recognize the safest and most profitable future is a multiplatform one and won't fight against that.

If Sony wants to play things MS's way through buying out exclusivity deals with their partners, fine, but I'd hope that doesn't become a usual practice of theirs (I don't think it will be). Rather, I think Sony is interested in directing most of their resources at growing a network of ip's to promote their brand through those properties they can control without forking over lofty sums.

I don't think Konami would want any part of that either, nor do I think Sony would pay for it, but if Kojima says you get no game unless I do it the way I want then folks might just fall in line.

Let's just hope Kojima doesn't get fired for sexual harassment then ;)

Itagaki! Why!!!

I assumed that because Ground Zeroes is multiplatform that the same will for MGS5?

That's what we're debating, it probably will be but we know Kojima has a love affair with Playstation so nothing's impossible.

I would be happy with getting at least two of the games that he's working on before the PS4 launches. I really want ZOE3 to be one of the games he releases for the ps3. Since I don't know anything about Project Ogre, I don't have an opinion as to which system I'd want to see it on.

I want project ogre to be a super duper brand new tactical rpg called, TACTICS OGRE SUPREME with realistic graphics, a great story, and boobs in tons of scenes that make me happy.

None of future Kojima games will be exclusives. The creation of FOX engine leads me to believe so.

Good point mate, even if Kojima wants to go exclusive, Konami wouldn't allow it even if he is the VP of Konami.

Yeah I read that too. It's good for the gaming world. Not so good for Sony. That's a big franchise to lose.

defiantly would be the best idea!
hopefully sales wise, yea it would be a new system and expensive so saturation rate would be low.
but than it also has its upside, it means theres very little competition.
and not to mention the guys has mindless fans flowing out the wazoo!
best for the game too, just more possible on next gen systems.
would be best for the target system as well.
ps3 has PLENTY games available for it next year!
this year sadly a whole other kettle of fish, but next year is swimming to the brim.
so it would be best for the platform if it was ps4, and it would also be best for the platform because it will hopefully be a new IP and a unique one.
something we have not seen before, maybe even a new genre like heavy rain was!
said games always do better on fresh systems since thats where people look for them.
to be honest id be VERY surprised if project ogre ends up a current gen game!
not only because of the nature stated above but also because there suppose to release next year and i cant see him working on a old gen game.
releasing a ps3 game when ps4 is out.
not to mention hes releasing MGSGZ next year, so project ogre is probably still a while off.
in fact id be surprised if it was a next gen launch title!
more likely a 1 year anniversary.

I can't imagine Kojima releasing 3 of his projects within a 2 years span. Plus, next gen might be closer than we think, so there's an excellent chance one of his current project won't hit current gen consoles.

Perhaps Ogre is Fox Engine on Vita? That would be fairly amazing.
