Child Of Light Trailer Emerges: So Soft, So Sweet, So Nostalgic

For those who miss the Golden Age of JRPGs, you might just fall in love with Child of Light.

The brainchild of Far Cry 3 director Patrick Plourde, the promising new digital title was initially revealed during Gamescom last month. At the time, Plourde said the project is the "the antithesis of a AAA game." And so it is.

He also described the beautiful hand-drawn artistry as being inspired by painters such as Arthur Rackham and Edmund Dulac. Looking at the new trailer below, it reminds me a little of Legend of Mana for the PS1, only there's actually turn-based battles in Child of Light (LoM was side-scrolling real-time). What we see here is a young girl who is - evidently - a fairy of sorts, as she can fly for brief distances, and she's also equipped with a sword and magic. The backdrop is gorgeous and the gameplay looks fantastic.

The confirmed platforms at the end of the video include the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Wii U and PC. Now we just need a release date!

Thanks, Zak!

It would be so wonderfully ironic if now the JRPG genre is revived by a *western* company.

Doubly ironic if a Western studio succeeded in bringing back the turn-based RPG, and then the Japanese developers copy it because they always want to cater to Westerners now...and they'd be copying a copy of themselves.

Whatever insane path the Japanese have to take to get back to what's right will just have to do!

Wii U's second screen may compliment a game like this nicely.
