Shadow Fall Multiplayer: No XP, Spotlight System Introduced
In most games, especially shooters, you earn experience to progress online.
But that won't be the case in the PlayStation 4 exclusive launch title, Killzone: Shadow Fall. In a new blog post, Guerrilla community editor Victor Zuylen explained some of the intriguing alterations we'll see in the game's multiplayer.
First up is the fact that there will be no EXP advancement. Instead, your character will advance by completing a series of challenges. There will be over 1,500 to accept and conquer and they will vary widely in difficulty; everything from "destroy one turret" to "kill one enemy player with a laser tripmine while they are carrying a beacon." Timing is kinda essential in that latter challenge. With each challenge completed, one point will be added to a player's rank.
There's also a new Spotlight System, which will boast the top three players from the winning side of a multiplayer match, and the top player from the losing side. One of the winning players will have a certain amount of time to perform a crowd-pleasing Spotlight move on the losing player, who has the chance to perform a swift counterattack if the aggressor fails. Don't choke under the pressure of public scrutiny!
Lastly, Zuylen made it plain that the game's weaponry is based on skill; there will be no auto-aiming and all firearms have at least some recoil. Each weapon can support two attachments as well, so those decisions will be significant. Oh, and no jetpacks, unfortunately. Well, maybe it's "fortunately" for some fans of the franchise.
