Deep Down An "Online RPG," Not Guaranteed For US?

Capcom's Deep Down got a lot of attention when it turned heads during Sony's PlayStation Meeting in February.

The apparent action/RPG looked fantastic and appeared to be one of the best new titles for the PlayStation 4. New details have continued to emerge, and the latest tidbit is that the game isn't technically confirmed for North America yet. They're talking about it.

According to Forbes, Deep Down is dubbed an "online RPG" and Capcom is still "discussing" the possibility of bringing it to Western territories. We're all assuming it'll happen, of course, but we also assumed a Western launch was a foregone conclusion. When you assume, you make a... Right? As for it being a PS4 exclusive, that's another "for now" situation. In other words, yes, it's currently exclusive to the PS4, as Capcom boss Yoshinori Ono stated.

But a whole lot can change between now and the game's release. We've heard the promising title won't even be playable until E3 2014, so it's still a ways off. Oh well, not like there's a shortage of games.

Sounds like they don't even know what the hell to do with it.

It's coming. We all know Capcom has had a Western focus trying to cater to the Western audience and this title has the look that may appeal to said audience.

Well I mean, why did we all assume that it was coming to Western markets?

Could it possibly be that they announced the game at a Western focused console announcement? Hmmmmmmm.

To come out after all that, and say "We are considering taking it to the US" just shows how hopeless Capcom are.

"Hey western world, look at this cool game called Deep Down that looks great, but we are only releasing it in Japan loooooooooooooooool byyyeee"

I like what I have seen from the SCEJ conference when they showed the gameplay.

I honestly think the game will stay exclusive to the PS4 though.

(forgot to add this)

I think it will come to the West as well. I don't know why they would show it at E3 if it wasn't going to.

The game looks super western focused, they'd have to be very unwise not to release it here.

Who cares. I am playing Diablo 3 for the PS3 and I am having a damn blast. This game has kept me from playing Final Fantasy 14.

Get it. You will love it. Online is the best.

I'm confident it will. I mean they showed it in US mainland at the PlayStation event. Things that have a chance in staying exclusive to Japan are the ones that are announced in Japan.... and something that's super Japanese... This on the other hand looks western as heck AND it was announced in the US.

Ok so, here is how I see it. This gen has been watered down with FPS's. The reason being that these devs sit around and pick and choose what games come out where. Everybody has been crying out for RPG's this gen and we've gotten FF13. Kind of a slap in the face if you ask me. After all the times you've asked us how we're feeling about the next gen, I'll finally answer. I'm scared. I'm terrified that the next gen will be even more, A: Costly, due to DLC and micro transactions and B: It's gonna be watered down by FPS bullcrap.

I'm not so worried, we got a lot of good RPGs on PS3. Unless you are looking for JRPGs, in which case Tales is our only hope.

Ok, granted there are some good-ish rpgs on ps3 this gen. Two worlds 2 was marvelous, Still want to play star ocean the last hope, WKC was ok the team AI was a little stupid, Diablo 3 seems... Lacking in the customization area, and then there is WKC 2. Now I kind of did want to get this game (although wkc was a little to "PC MMORPG for my liking), I learned, however, that Lev 5 was not releasing the final dlc for wkc 2 outside of Asia, when all they had to do was send a 100 kb unlock because everything was already on the disc. Which brings me back to my original point. This is why the next gen scares me so much.

To be honest -- I don't want any RPG from Capcom. It's going to take two to three DLC to complete the story.

I'll patiently wait for Dark Souls 2.
