Sony On PS4: The Production Yields Have Been "Phenomenal"
We've said it before and we'll say it again: It's absolutely critical that Sony has enough PlayStation 4 units to go around this holiday season.
The appalling availability of the PS3 at launch is a big sore spot in the history of the PlayStation brand, and helped to dig an early hole for Sony. But this time around, the company intends to produce. Big time.
SCEA boss Jack Tretton told FOX Business that Sony is actually holding some back stock of PS4 consoles so they'll be available to purchase on launch day. When asked about the current demand, Tretton replied that "it's everything we can manufacture." However, as they want to make sure that consumers have the chance of getting a PS4 this holiday season, they're "holding back some inventory."
Thankfully, he added that "production yields have been phenomenal" so when November 15 rolls around, it will become the biggest launch in PlayStation history. Tretton wouldn't provide the public with an exact figure, but he did say this- "There's so much pent-up demand for it that you could sell every one that you could create." That's good to hear, right? And if production is high, then everyone should be happy. Or most everyone, anyway; you can't hope to please every single consumer.
