PSXE Poll Update: PlayStation 4's Price Tag Is Just Right

The PlayStation 3 launched in 2006 at $600. Lots of people didn't like that.

Sony wasn't about to make same mistake twice, as the new PlayStation model will debut at $200 less than its predecessor: $400. And as a result, most gamers think the price point is absolutely perfect.

According to our latest poll, the vast majority of readers agreed that the price couldn't be better, which is a good sign for Sony. By using more common off-the-shelf components to construct the PS4, Sony is able to produce a cheaper yet more practical console, one that developers have often praised since the unit's unveiling. Some hold to the belief that Sony should've stuck with next-level tech that might result in higher cost, but better overall hardware potential, but the majority appears to disagree.

This week, as the PS4 is now less than two months away, how would you rate your excitement level on a scale of 1-10? Are you completely maxed at a 10? So excited you're starting to drool? Or are you a little more reserved, perhaps due to a less-than-amazing launch lineup? Let us know.

I not so excited due to lack of games, but a little bit cuz it's new tech and there will be new possibilities. Maybe even something other than Driveclub for Instant Game Collection.

I feel the same way, I know there are titles like Final Fantasy XV & Metal Gear Solid V on the way, but there isn't even a hint of a release date. But they're not even Sony exclusives, so regarding on whats on offer so far I'm just not inspired by it.

Resogun looks cool, though not really my thing anymore.

I wouldn't expect MGSV for a year and FFXV for 3-4 years so yeah it's like mmeh.

I feel that price is good for the PS4 unfortunately I will be holding off for a while, mainly because winter is coming up and I'm planning to buy a new cruiser/jib stick.

Didn't the PS3 actually debut at $499 for the 20GB model?

That's what people say, I never saw any such system in my area.

yep indeed it did but it costed Sony along with the 60GB, I believe around $200-300 for each system sold. Sony was in a big gamble back then.

To be perfectly frank, the PC and games on it have dulled my excitement although I'm still going to buy it.
The future exclusives are enough for me to invest :)

So very excited, I picked 10. I know I Need to tone it down because over hyping can lead to disappointment.

At least a console can only get better the longer you own it, it's games you don't want to overhype in your mind :)

I say 10. Sure, we could have a more powerful console, but from the looks of things, especially infamous second son, I can't help but get excited for the long run. The price point is just PERFECT.

Games are always the least of my worries. I know they will eventually come. Also, the possibilities outside of pure gaming excites me as well. The ability for it to sleep, remote play with Vita anywhere, starting download outside your home, smoother OS experience, DS4 experience with improved feel and speakers, cross chat, sharing features between friends, background installing, and who knows what the PS eye may bring... not that I'm too excited about it.

I'm excited not just for gaming, but the whole experience. Bring it on Sony.

for what it is its ok, not too overly expensive, but not amazing value either.
would be better if they bundled 2 games in with it.

as for excitement levels, can you choose flatline?
sorry but after having a amazing spec PC running games on highest settings available, 60FPS, mods, and ultra HD, i just cant get excited about medium settings, not even full HD, and not even 60FPS!
this has been by FAR the longest weve ever had to wait for next gen systems, and were rewarded that with mild cheddar.

Yeah... The Price is Right, but I still ain't getting one for a while. I have to say my excitement level is about 4-5. I just haven't seen that gameplay leap yet, I have a frickin' ENORMOUS backlog that includes Mass Effect 1-3, the two Dragon Age games, Ni No Kuni, White Knight Chronicles 1 & 2, the entire Assassin's Creed series to date, The Jak and Daxter Trilogy, Dark Souls, Yakuza 4, POP Trilogy and Forgotten Sands, and GTA V coming this weekend, and those are just the ones that are going to take more than twenty hours apiece!

Even if they stopped selling PS3 games on November 15 2013, I would still have more than enough to keep me occupied for months, if not years, and those are the primary reasons why I'm just not that amped for the PS4.

Same here, with a couple more years of college to go, a huge backlog of games, and a new mortgage, I'll be postponing "Greatness" for when it finally feels great, that is when ND releases a master piece I can't resist playing :-)

Winter is Coming...

It's a good thing for Sony that MS discharged their gun in its holster. Launches never have astonishing titles but if Xbox One didn't hit with a thud Sony would have needed a better lineup imo to reach the crazy sales they apparently have in their pocket already.

Hope it's a blowout, just so companies think twice about timed exclusive content in the future.
