GameStop: One Next-Gen Console In 2013, Another In 2014
It seems the Nintendo Wii U will be hitting store shelves this fall, but when will the new consoles from Sony and Microsoft arrive?
That really is the $64,000 question these days. Last week, we told you we had heard from a few GameStop employees that one or both next-gen systems will release in 2013. We also told you to take that with a grain of salt but now, GameStop CEO Paul Raines has told Polygon that in fact, one of those next-gen machines is set for next year.
"This week, I'm getting a lot of rumors that are very interesting about 2013. We have not been expecting two more consoles in 2013. We're expecting Wii U this holiday, another one next year, and another one in '14. These rumors change every week, but we're hearing more about next year."
Any bets that the new Xbox is 2013 and the next PlayStation is 2014? That seems most logical, in that Microsoft is definitely in need of new hardware, while the PS3 clearly has some capability left in the tank (The Last Of Us and Beyond: Two Souls are statement enough). Either way, it appears one next-gen console will be here next year, so get ready.
