Activision Details Cross-Gen Upgrade Plans For CoD: Ghosts

We know that some of you are asking: "How exactly do I upgrade my current-gen copy of Call of Duty: Ghosts to the next-gen version?

Activision had revealed an upgrade plan that meant you wouldn't have to pay $60 twice, and now they've offered full details. Pay attention if you intend to pick up both copies of the game at some point.

Firstly, for a limited period of time, the physical copies of the PS3 version of Ghosts will include a download code that will let you purchase the PS4 copy for $10 on the PSN. If you buy the title digitally for PS3, these will be automatically eligible for the upgrade; just bear in mind that all copies must be purchased and all codes must be redeemed before March 31, 2014. Secondly, for the UK and European markets, there's a similar plan, which will let customers upgrade their physical PS3 copies to the PS4 copy for about £10/€10.

Thirdly, there will be retailer-specific upgrade offers, but these appear to be only for the Xbox 360 to Xbox One transition (at least for now). Microsoft also has a Game Ahead program, which offers digital copies of Ghosts for the 360 and Xbox One in one package that retails for $69.99. Fourthly and lastly, Activision says that if you purchase a Season Pass for Ghosts before May 31, 2014, this will include the next-gen upgrade for owners of the current-gen version. The Season Pass will retail for $50.

There, see? They've pretty much got you covered. They really, really want you playing the new Call of Duty, regardless of which platform(s) you own.

might be to some people but to people wbo likes the games, not just cod games, its a welcome savings than buying full price. as for call of duty season pass, never thought their map packs were worth the money but if theyre putting the upgrade in with season pass then it makes it look more of a bargain, not by much mind you, lol.

although, not to completely disregard this gesture. i want to ask why an upgrade is $10 for a digital copy. im sure theyre not missing a chance to profit from this and a stand alone digital copy would be 60 i assume. how are they able to charge that much for it because they sure as hell wont do this is they were losing something.

I'm crossing my fingers Rockstar has an upgrade plan for the inevitable PS4 version of GTA 5. At the very least, I hope I'll be able to transfer my game save! I could then sell my PS3 copy for a few bucks to offset the cost of the new one.

i have the same idea because like call of duty 4. this will be what they slightly improve upon each year. so if i played this, i practically played all next gen call of duty games.

I'll keep my money for something better, one question though, why do people want last gen games for the new gen?!?! I would assume that the next gen have next gen software...but you know what they say when you assume...

Please bring new games to the NEW gen...not games that I can play on last gen equipment.

these are new gen games for new systems. theyre just givingthe consumers who cant afford new systems at launch, people who actually buy their own game systems and not the ones who ask their parents to buy them, to play the same game with theyre friends. i for one is getting ps3 version of bf4 first because i cant afford to buy a ps4, new game, and year of ps plus all in one go. not to mention i usually get bones with tax because instead of 400 for the system, its actually around 450. and besides, why should i get bf4 on ps4 first? if im getting a game for a new system, it will be an exclusive game.

I disagree. They are simply offering it to this large install base now as they know if they just brought it to the next generation they would lose out on sales.

Next year, there will be enough next gen consoles sold to just sell it there. For Activison it's a win win scenario...that is if people continue to buy their games.

Just to let you guys know, COD isn't the only game doing this.

A lot, if not most, Cross-gen titles that are launching from Oct-Nov are doing a very similar thing.
