The Evil Within TGS Trailer Treats Us To Freaky Gameplay

In preparation for the Tokyo Game Show, Bethesda has sent over the first gameplay footage of Shinji Mikami's horrific thriller, The Evil Within.

Scheduled to arrive for both current- and next-gen consoles, this one is probably best played in the middle of the night with all the lights off. And the "father of survival/horror" definitely has some freaky tricks up his sleeve.

In this video, we see the protagonist exploring a seriously screwed up environment, and the setting appears to be reminiscent of the Silent Hill games. You know, when the world is normal one minute and a writhing hell the next? The character can move in a crouch and is also seen holding several weapons, including a rifle. As for the enemies he'll be facing, we see a lightning-fast person in a white cloak and something extra nasty at the end...

Horror fans, Mikami's got your back.

Oh hell yeah, horror is my lifeblood once again these days. If it's coming next year then I'll get the PS4 version for maximum graphics. I love these classic insane asylum settings no matter how overdone they are, I trust Mikami to roll out the good stuff. I hope we get a date.

I also love the insane asylum settings. The game looks good, but I do hope they don't take the action oriented route later on.

Judging by part of the clip it's looks like some of the cutscences would be action oriented.. but gameplay wise I think your going to be alone.

Holy cow! This game actually looks really cool.

It oozes Resident Evil. I am liking what I see!!!

Bring back Horror!

EDIT: Thinking about it, it seems more and more like my theory may come true. That the next-generation will see a return to the glory days of gaming. The PS3 gen was a little mirky, some great titles, but overall it felt like a bit of a flop. The PS4 gen is shaping up with some pretty amazing titles..... and it hasn't even started yet. Some truly innovative ideas, as well as some returns to original greats.

I know this may seem random, but I think this game would look great with the Fox Engine.

But yeah, this game is certainly looking up. Can't wait myself. I've actually skipped a whole generation of horror games lol. Dead Nation was the closest thing to playing horror games.

exactly why im so excited for this, it fixes the problems of horror games.
so many games give you a good scare, but the characters and the environment really are not what they should be.
outlast a perfect example, it offers allot of jumps, but the baddies loose impact quite quickly because there just not scary looking.
ugly yes, but after youve been chased by the guy a few times you just start to get bored and lose your fear of him.
you need the dark sick sadistic environments and enemies constantly surrounding you to keep up that sense of true terror and dread of whats around the next corner.
exactly why i stoped playing outlast, it just got so boring a hour in because i lost all my fear of whos hunting me.
