Sony's Fiscal 2013 Sales Goal For PS4: 5 Million Units
Sony expects the PlayStation 4 to sell well during its first five months of availability.
As the company revealed at the Tokyo Game Show, they expect to sell 5 million PS4 units worldwide before the current fiscal year comes to a close on March 31, 2014.
SCE president and group CEO Andrew House made the announcement, saying initially that he expected to hit the 5 million number "by the end of 2013." He later clarified via Twitter that he was referring to the 2013 fiscal year, which is what most business executives mean when they say "end of the year." The PS4 is slated to launch in North America on November 15 and in Europe on November 29. It will release in Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan in December, and it won't hit Japan until February 2014. Well, at least they'll get over a month of Japanese sales to bolster the final fiscal number, and that'll be very helpful.
Last month, Sony revealed that they had received over 1 million pre-orders for the PS4, and that number has undoubtedly grown since. Is 5 million unrealistic? Maybe not.
