PSXE Poll Update: PS4 Excitement Level Off The Charts

The PlayStation 4 will be in many a gamer's home in less than two months. And they're really pumped.

Our latest poll asked PSXE readers to rate their excitement level for the PS4 on a scale of 1-10, and the majority say they hit a 10. A fair number said they're between a 7 and 9, which is about where I am, I think. Can't quite go to a 10.

Sony's new console appears ready to take the gaming industry by storm: Sony has created a console that is very developer-friendly, and it will go easy (relatively speaking) on the consumer's wallet. The launch lineup could be a little stronger in my opinion, but there's no doubt that the system's potential is fantastic. As a home entertainment hub, the PS4 should fill those shoes nicely; it's a true-blue all-in-one entertainment machine! For only $399, you should be able to enjoy countless hours of fun time for many years. ...let's just hope the thing is reliable; that's pretty important, ya know.

This week, with Grand Theft Auto V scoring crazy high and selling like mad, are you on the bandwagon? Would you say that GTAV is indeed one of the very best games of all time? Or are you not quite so enamored with Rockstar's latest effort?

I have to wait til next year, plus I gotta replace my old phat PS3 because the blu-ray drive is acting up. Trading it in for a 250 or 500GB model. Regarding GTA 5 probably the best game in the series I played. A lot of detail and Trevor is a trip.

Hmmm, I didn't vote in the last poll. But I can honestly say while I always enjoy and look forward to a new toy, I'm just not as stoked and I maybe should be for the PS4. Nothing to do with the PS4 itself. Perhaps it's because my excited seems to be in the Nintendo direction for the time being. A lot of AAA titles for the Wii U coming out from no until next spring.

Any chance of a Twilight Princess HD?

Yup, Eiji Aonuma, Zelda's producer said Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword were the first two considered for the HD treatment but they liked how Wind Waker turned out best so they decided to go with that one. But the other two could be done with some help from other studios. Mainly because his team is tied down to the new Wii U Zelda game and A Link to Two Worlds. So hopefully well see Twilight Princess and even Skyward Sword remade. Both are still great looking games. It's neat how Nintendo's graphics, even though dated compared to newer gen hardware, still stand the test of time. Even Metroid Prime still looks good even though its and 11 year old game.

That's pretty cool, TwP would probably be totally stunning and I'd like to play it some day even if I have to wait a very long time.

I would get the Wii U once I see a proper 3D world Mario game, as well as Donkey Kong Country. Seriously, last Donkey Kong 3D adventure was from the N64 days. What the heck Nintendo? But yeah, by the time that happens, the Wii U will probably be pretty cheap.

I also really would like Banjo too, but can't freaking believe Xbox owns that license now.

Dude, Daus, there was a proper Donkey Kong game on Wii called Donkey Kong Country Returns and they're releasing a new one for Wii U called Tropical Freeze in December. Made by Retro Studios. The same studio who made the Metroid Prime trilogy. There's also a 3D Mario game called Mario 3D World coming out in Nov. for the Wii U. Not sure how you missed this....

I told myself a while ago that if the next PlayStation hardware impressed and if the price point was around $400, it would be an immediate buy, regardless of the launch lineup. And that's what's happened. I'll definitely pick up 'Watch Dogs' and 'Black Flag', and perhaps 'Shadow Fall' and 'Battlefield 4', though(my desire to play first-person shooters has really dwindled this generation, but I am eager to try out the launch titles to get an idea of where we stand on that genre in the new generation).

As for 'Grand Theft Auto V', I'm pretty amazed. And I had extremely high expectations going in. It still has it's fair share of technical hiccups, so I can't easily say that it bests 'The Last of Us' and 'BioShock Infinite.' But it's at least of the same caliber, and definitely the best in the series so far. Admittedly, I seem to be in the relative minority of people who loved 'IV's story, and 'V' hasn't quite roped me in the same way yet. But I'm only about seventeen hours in, mostly from doing things that aren't directly tied to the main story, and it's definitely sucking me in, little by little. So I'll give it time, but I already regard it extremely well.

I'm excited for the ps4. I am not excited for GTAV, but I have no doubt that I will really enjoy it when I finally play it. If my last experience with GTA IV is any indication, then I'm sure numero V is deserving of its many accolades.

Can't Wait for PS4... All the things it's be able to do, graphics, detail,Social features,Controller,Remote Play, and the games.

Plus the fact that Xbox is now blu ray also, multiplat games won't be gimped(Hopefully)

Faster loading in the blu ray drive

Stream Loading

Videogame and Video record streaming

500GB HDD

Better PSN Servers(im guessing now that we have to pay)

I CANT WAIT TO GET MY HANDS ON IT.

Yea GTA 5 is the BEST GTA in the series. Usually I get bored with GTA's story and just start screwing around after about 2 days. Im still playing the story and I'm not bored, I didn't even begin screwing around yet, let alone how much fun GTA Online is going to be when it launches.

I'll get back to you on GTA V sometime after Beyond launches. My desire to play QD's latest is an ache, and prior to that I want to play through Puppeteer and give PES 2014 a fair whack for review purposes. I'll try to squeeze in a few hours of Los Santos adventures, but. Not really the storyline though, so I'm curious: does it open up immediately following the first mission, or do you have to wait a bit?

You come to the internet to ask about a game you own? Here's a novel idea: play it.

Novel idea indeed, but I don't want to know anything about the story for now. I just want to stuff around and I'd like to know if you can do that off the bat, or whether you need to do more than the opening mission in order to do so. Not a difficult question to answer, is it?

Also, I don't like to play more than one game at a time, so there's that, too.

You dont have to do many missions. You only have to do the first one and then can do what you like for as long as you like!

Honestly... I'm not that excited yet. I know the idea of a new console should be thrilling bu I just haven't seen any new game that really want to make me go out and buy the console. Watchdogs looks decent as does Assassins Creed IV but there is nothing that I feel desperate to play.

I think part of it is due to the lack of interesting exclusives. Most of the games I would buy a console for that were previously exclusive with the PS2 like Final Fantasy or Metal Gear are now on the XBOX too. When I think about which console I want I am much more indecisive now Sony has lost so many exclusives. Both the consoles seem to other pretty much the same content so when it comes to choosing it comes to petty things like the consoles interface or Achievements/Trophies.

The only reason as of now that I want a PS4 is for when Metal Gear Solid V is released, of course that is also being released on the PS3 but to know there is a better version of the game I will feel cheated with the inferior game. Before it was announced on the next gen, I was more than content on getting it for the PS3 and there wasn't anything at all about next gen I cared for. Heck if it turns out that the PS3/4 version isn't dramatically different I might even just get the PS3 version.... we'll see.

disappointed to say the least!
disappointed that its taken SEVEN freaking years for these things to release!
disappointed that there by far the least significant leap weve ever seen, and especially more disappointed considering this is the longest weve ever had to wait.
disappointed with how they look, why does everything have to be designed with rulers these days?
no curvs, just harsh ugly sharp edges!
and two tone, like seriously!?
disappointed that the whole soul and lure of $ony, the ambition, the future alien technology, the sense of how deep does the rabbit hole go, is gone.
no futuristic architecture, no futuristic new media player, hell it does not even offer 4K!
well, games obviously not, hell most games are not even 1080!
they wont even say whether it will support 4K movies, go figure.........
even though M$, hardly a company thats been pushing 4K, announced months ago that the xbox one will support 4K movies!
hell it even comes with a 4K HDMI cable included in the box!

but mostly disappointed with the games.
most of them just dont seem next gen at all, they just feel like current gen games with a coat of paint.
im constantly finding myself saying we waited SEVEN freaking years for this!?
then theres the amount of launch titles, 99% of them will be available on current systems weeks if not months before.
so what do i do when i go drop 550+ bucks on my next gen console?
play a game ive already been playing for weeks?
yea, good luck with that!

after waiting SEVEN freaking years, seeing the advances PC has given us, seeing the advances consoles NORMALLY give us, well, suffice to say im pretty disappointed!

as for GTAV, disappointment.
disappointment not because its a bad game, but disappointment because it just blindly refuses to acknowledge and even try to fix the problems R* has with every one of their games.
when a game releases and it has big flaws its disappointing and upsetting, but when said developer releases game after game after game after game after game after game after game after game after game after game after game completely ignoring said issues, it makes you want to clock them over the head with a freaking sledgehammer!

R*, please, for the love of god, will you PLEASE stop with this tedious boring bullshit!?
so many games struggle with pacing, one minute your hearts racing at 100000bmp and the next minute your bored to death, but jesus christ R* has always found a way to take that and make it even worse!
one minute your having a blast robbing a bank, flying through the sewers with a gigantic smile on your face.
the next minute your sitting in a crane moving containers around, looking around you saying christ there must be another game i can play, ANYTHING to break this tedious boredom!

Sony is already selling at a loss of about $60 with the PS4 per console SOLD. Their electronics division is on the line if the PS4 fails to meet their expectation. If they're to make the console any more powerful, while providing an attractive price, that's too much of a risk. Let's be realistic, what you're asking for warrants at least a $600 console. The cost of developing a new architecture alone is insane.

Oh and btw, not sure where you were, but Yoshida confirmed long ago that the PS4 can run 4K movies.

Everybody wants a super beast console, but the problem is balancing that with affordability. I think the PS4 packs an amazing power to cost ratio. In the long run, I think it can run many games that thousand dollar PCs can achieve, and this is only a $400 console we're talking about here.

Loving gta 5 so far, but that's mostly due to Trevor.
Just got past the torture scene, and the 2nd heist, but the former has to be the most messed up thing I've seen gaming thus far.
Poor Mr K.

The PS4 is the first console I've ever bought day one, let alone preordered, but that's mainly because of the price point.
Still kinda wish Dead Rising 3 would turn out to be a timed exclusive. I wouldn't mind Ryse either.
