David Jaffe Goes Ghost Hunting With New IP
The Bartlet Jones Supernatural Detective Agency is a full service ghost hunting, ghost removal, and Spectral Analysis agency. It is also the new IP from a new studio that God of War and Twisted Metal guru David Jaffe has started.
Apparently, and according to Polygon, the outspoken industry veteran has partnered with an aging expert on the supernatural with the ability to cure werewolfism both for the development of this game and to occasionally solve some real life cases of things that go bump in the night.
“Jaffe tells me, with a completely dead-pan voice, that this person, this approaching-80-year-old ghost hunter, werewolf curer, demon tracker, is backing a chunk of the studio and that when Jaffe's not working on the game with his small team, he's occasionally tracking down the spirits of the dearly departed,” Brian Crecente reports.
It would seem there is some big publisher interest in the project, but Jaffe won't say who. He name-drops Ubisoft, Microsoft, and Sony and then lets those names hang in the air.
He likens the game to the development of God of War in that it is a ground-up form of realization but he stops short of saying it will be quite as grand of a project. Jaffe appears more interested in establishing the IP as a rich world for further exploration.
I think this is a form of development we might actually see more of; why bet double-digit millions on a AAA new IP when you can test the waters and establish a universe with a medium-sized game?
All we know about Bartlet Jones so far is that it is in an already popular genre and aims to bring something new to whatever genre that is. There's a great origin story for the project at Polygon that I recommend reading. It would seem the project has a ways to go, could we see it on PS4? Time will tell.
