Imagine It: Gran Turismo 6 On The PS4 With 4K Resolution

So here's the scenario:

Sony has unveiled some ridiculous insanity known as 4K resolution, which many believe might be supported by the PlayStation 4, as Sony would use the PS4 as a Trojan Horse of sorts to introduce that wacky new HD tech to the world. It'd be a similar tactic to how they used Blu-Ray in the PS3.

Gran Turismo 5 launched in late 2010 and we know Polyphony Digital has been working on the next entry, although there's no knowing when it might arrive. Given the amount of time each installment tends to take, and the fact that the new PlayStation is probably not more than a couple years off, we could assume GT6 will be a PS4 title. Now, Gran Turismo has been pushing the limits of graphical capability since the franchise debuted fifteen years ago. Therefore, if everything comes together, if we get the perfect storm, it's more than feasible that GT6 could end up being the best-looking video game we've ever seen when it arrives.

Of course, even if it's true that it'll support some silly resolution, few will have access to that resolution, right? Still, it's an interesting theory and just picturing it gives me goosebumps.

Ha, I'm imagining cars so real, I'll want to get out my carnuba wax every time I pop in GT6.

Now, if the cars could come with that "new car" smell too.....sniff, sniff.

GT6 on the PS3 is more feasible in my eyes. GT7 will most likely utilize that display on the PS4.

I only say this because the PS1 and PS2 got two full GT games and I honestly don't see PDI changing from this philosophy.

The assets are in place for a PS3 title similarly done the way GT4 was to GT3 on the PS2 and GT2 to GT1 on the PS1.

If you are correct Ben, I am going need a ton of cash. LOL

I think GT6 for PS3 is more feasible to me too, but much more than just the reasons of having 2 GTs per generation. I made several long posts at GTplanet about it lol, so I'm not going to bother doing it again here haha.

GT6 in 4k resolution sounds awesome, but when I think about it my wallet starts aching. Big TV, 4k resolution, surround sound, a good quality wheel...Wow! I'm lovin' it.

Imagine Dead or Alive in 4k resolution. That's a whole lot of breast pixels.

I pretty much expect a handful of games to really promote 4k. I'm more curious about 4K movie disks. I personally don't want to even think about buying yet ANOTHER Star Wars saga, but I suppose it'll probably happen at some point. Anyway, if 4K is pushing 8 million pixels, up from the 2million 1080p pushes, I'd imagine the data read rate of BD-Players will need to increase pretty dramatically. I think standard single speed BD drives playback at a peak around 4 and half MB's per second, and to imagine 8x that would have data being read at around 32 MB's per second. That's like a freaking CD's worth of data being read in within 20 seconds. Crazy. Anyhow, I'm not too stoked for any of this just yet, but it seems to be part of Sony's DNA so I just wont set myself up to believe ushering in another medium standard is out of the question. Sadly, I think gamers who JUST want to play games sort of pay for a market we don't necessarily care to directly support, but oh well.

8 megapixels in still image is Amazing, but in motion? Wow.

Just imagine the mandatory install, it'd be at least 15GB :S

And let's be honest, have a lot of GT5 owners completed GT5(not thinking about trophies? Cuz there's so much content (for me at least) that I don't mind if Polyphony Digital tinkers away with GT6.

I'd just cherish my time with GT5 even more :P

I have, but a lot of my friends haven't so I see your point haha. Keeping up with the seasonals every week is enough for my friends lol, even though they're just optional.

Also, I believe the huge install was because of development shortage time, because with the new discs coming out, specifically XL and GTAcademy version, I don't think you have to install 10gigs, or do you?

If the spec of the PS4 will indicate that it should be able to run a game like GT in a whopping 4k resolution I am going to publicly *faint*. That would be beyond even my already wild expectations of what the PS4 will bring to the table.

if the ps4 can deliver GT levels of eye candy in 4K resolution ill eat my hat!
more likely we wake up tomorrow and find bugs bunny is president of the world and pigs have now grown golden wings and harps!

makes me wonder how long this 4K nonsense will last though, especially that 8K TVs have been shown off for a while now.
obviously further off than 4K TVs, but it will be really interesting to see by how much.
and will we see a short transition, IE early adopters go to 4K but the rest wait and by then 8K will replace it.
or will 4K be the main "standard"?
amazing how fast technology is moving these days, you get 1 new amazing tech and moments later its already yesterdays news!

Ben, you're on the money, like it seems you know PD as well as I do. There's no doubt in my mind, that PD will push for every current technology till it bleeds. If the PS4 does support 4k, definitely expect Gran Turismo to be one of the games that will support it. They even used GT5 as the tech demo for the 84 inch simul view TV.

Remember though, 4k is really only beneficial to super-sized TV, so saying we need a lot of cash to experience it first hand is an understatement!

I dunno man, we don't even have more than a handful of games running in native 1080p right now. Many even dip below 720 (CoD).

So long as the 4K resolution is in the PS4 and say GT6 comes out on the PS4, then there is no doubt what so ever thay PD would use it. They have always liked pushing the envolope and I would see this being no different.

I'm imagining that you can see engravings in full details even in the rims and tires. And the Brembo logo will be clearly seen during a race. Drools!
